Ooooh, levelling - how unique - never seen that before! And oooh, he has still no idea what to level.. what surprise! When do we understand that Mr. Notch has no creative ideas for MC?
Please notch, step down and let somebody with ideas take over, please, please, please!
You have the money now let the pros do the creative work!
oh ok lets think your way
oh minecraft wasnt the first to have animals lets delete them
oh minecraft isnt the first one to have a player that over reacts about an update lets delete him
I'm actually not looking forward to any of these... They take away from the fun of it for me... I'll probably just stick with 1.7. I think it's as good as it's gonna get for me.
While these features may work I'd much prefer more emphasis on surviving against the >monsters<. So long as we can dig a 1x2 hole in some dirt and survive the night then it won't be a challenge. Food should be a necessity because you're getting hit by creepers/zombies/skeletons/etc.
IMO...
Creative = Build cool looking structures.
Survival = Build/mine to keep from being killed by hordes of monsters. Peaceful mode for those who want to build, but still have to mine the resources.
Adventure = No building, traditional RPG features. Levels, etc.
This is horse-****. I'll definitely put my name on a petition or something to have this remove.
It makes minecraft seem more rpg-like. Then there'll be the assholes who brag about how more experience they are than you because they grind more than you do. GODDAMNIT, I play Minecraft to ESCAPE **** like this!
Notch must have lost a bet or something in order to put this in the game. It doesn't seem like anything he'd usually add..

The triangles ruined it for me...that and the church for Satan.
I never would have thought Notch wouldn't fundamentally dislike the idea of levels in Minecraft. It's item-based. When you die you lose your items, and then possibly go on a mad dash to get them back.
I don't care if you lose all your levels when you die or not. But making something other than "getting better items" be the way to become stronger doesn't fit with Minecraft in any way. (TBH the only reason Terraria isn't completely worthless is because bone serpents are awesome.)
As long as it can be made to go away with the push of a button.
I have zip zero zilch desire to have perma-death, levels, or hunger 99% of the time I'm playing.
I want to play minecraft, at its core, as it is now.
A sandbox, free, open world.
Adding new and different things to do (EG villages of NPCs, new kinds of dungeons, new mechanics like pistons) thats fine by me.
Fundamentally re-arranging the entire way the game is played? Well thats ok too as long as its an entirely separate mode.
I don't want to lose everything upon death. Losing all my stuff and having to rush back to get it is bad enough. I like the hunger thing, I use it all the time in CJB mods. I don't think the conditions for death should change. You die, your stuff goes flying, and you have to go back and get it.
I'm not entirely sure what he means by permadeath, but I imagine that he means you just lose your fancy leveled up character, not your world. That is way too harsh, and I really don' think he would do that. And if he does, it will probably be toggleable considering how damn harsh that is.

This. I originally expected the update to only add more of an incentive to explore the world around you (with things like ruined forts and whatnot) and to improve existing elements (like combat). Hunger is a good addition, but I believe it should be toggleable with a difficulty setting (which it likely will be).
I dislike the idea of leveling. It feels like an unnecessary addition and a deviation from the theme of survival. I won't say too much though as very little has been revealed.
If something like permanent death is to be added I am almost certain it will be an option, and people who think otherwise need to get their heads out of their asses.
