Day 2 of Minecon. My friend wants to go to the CS M&G, right.
He had to get in line 5 hours before it started.
I spent most of my time at Minecon waiting in lines. Waiting for hours for a 40-minute panel. Waiting in line for food. Waiting in line to go into the exhibit hall. Waiting and waiting for very little content.
The line for the opening ceremonies formed 6 hours before it started.
Yes, I've been to other conventions. I've been to DragonCon, where the lines are just a bit more insane. But that's reasonable. That's 20000 people. This was 7500.
I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy Minecon. It was incredible and Notch walked by me. It was amazing.
It just needed a little more help.
Also, I felt that more than half of the people there had never played Minecraft. It was a little 5 year old boy with both his parents and his grandparents that had never played Minecraft. That's 4 tickets that could have been given to fans.
I'm not saying that the little boy didn't deserve to go, right. He was as much of a fan, and you can't prevent people from buying tickets for their parents.
This was funny, I was looking at the 3d printing machines in the Exhibit Hall, right. Then I hear some sort of loud roar made by a bunch of people.
And there was a man, about 23 years, old, being literally chased at top speed by a pack of (no joke) 150 children.
And that was the only time I ever felt bad or had any sympathy for SkyDoesMinecraft.
This kinda puts me off minecon :/
But I still want to go.
Even though i have never been to minecon, from what i'v just read about 150 kids chasing sky or people, there should be security.
Maybe this should be something for minecon to improve on ;D.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sometimes...there's that moment...when...you have to just.... DANCE IT OUT! WOOOOO
There's a reason why the lines are so huge. There's not enough famous people to see/panels to go to. There's not exactly much you can do about that, especially with the famous people.
What's the solution? You either:
1. Put up with it.
2. Lower the amount of people going.
Do you really want to cut the people in half and run double the chance you won't get tickets? I don't think so.

When lines begin to form and when lines actually get in are two different things. The opening ceremonies are a perfect example, being that I went there at 9:30am and got in at 9:50am (before I even got my exhibitors badge), and that's because the doors simply weren't open yet. Just because there's a line doesn't mean you need to be in the front of it to wait for anything.

This is incredibly accurate to that day, actually. At minecon we were attempting to have Sky come by the pmc booth for the extra life charity event, so I ended up being with him (and some other wonderful people!) for about 3 hours in total. I don't think I've ever witnessed a crazier zombie horde of children, but in all honesty I think that Sky enjoys his fanbase (and that they're happy), so it didn't seem to be overall that big of a problem (other than walking).
Yes I agree on the help thing. However the line thing cannot be avoided. You will see this anywhere you go. Even amusement parks / movies and even the wait lines for new cell phones / new consoles. Even now there are people standing in line for more than 8 hrs for the new x-box as I type this.
The help I think Minecon needs is more freedom for the famous you-tubers. They go to minecon just to get mobbed by fans and they cannot move for hrs. During this minecon they had private hallways for panelists. But they could not enjoy the convention. I have heard this same story from every single you-tuber I'm subbed to. Every time they tried to go somewhere outside of the private halls they got mobbed. I do not think this is fair. They Go to minecon but never see it. After the closing BTC attempted to take a peek in the Exhibit Hall before everything was taken down and was promptly told to leave. These people come for fans and pay 100's per night at hotels and they don't see anything. Just sign sign sign. As seeing that this is unavoidable the only thing I can suggest to solve this is to have few hrs after the closing ceremonies that ONLY panelists and You-tubers can check out the Exhibit Hall.

I never saw a line to enter the exhibt hall, in fact apart from right after the opening when everyone was leaving the main stage area to enter the exhibit hall I saw no sign of any lines
The line for the opening ceremonies formed 6 hours before it started.
I did see people on Reddit saying that, but I left my Hotel at just after 9.00am walk just under a mile to the convention and managed to be in my seat by 9.50am (I've checked the time on the picture I took to be sure)
Also, I felt that more than half of the people there had never played Minecraft. It was a little 5 year old boy with both his parents and his grandparents that had never played Minecraft. That's 4 tickets that could have been given to fans.
I mentioned this on another post, a lot of the people I spoke with where parents who had zero interest other than escorting their kid, but since minecraft player demographic is so biased towards children what else do you expect, parents are not going to let kids attend un-surprivised.
I over heard a huge argument going on back in my hotel with one family of 5, about how much time they had 'wasted' at the convention and why could not they goto Disney.. thats 5 tickets when only 1 person wanted to actually go.
And there was a man, about 23 years, old, being literally chased at top speed by a pack of (no joke) 150 children.
The same story is true of a lot of things, the opening ceremony was delayed mostly because a whole bunch of kids had decided they wanted Caveman films and some other guys autographs and could not be talked into getting out of the way sitting the hell down. When that cupquake girl and the guy she was with appeared at the opening there was loads of kids milling around trying to stop them leaving the stage to sign autographs.. despite the fact they where in the middle of going back stage.
Its not really new, at last years minecon in Paris a whole horde of kids managed to delay the closing because they all wanted Captain Sparkles autograph, the organizers where repeatly asking over the PA for them to sit down so they closing could start, but more and more kids kept joining the queue.
The help I think Minecon needs is more freedom for the famous you-tubers.
I said this before, at the last Minecon I kept bumping into The B-Team, they where just there to see the con and wondering around, I saw them in other peoples panels, and for the most part people where not bothering them, apart from after the minecrack panel when it turned into a Zombie horde for autographs, I've never seen anyone looks so terrified as BdoubleO in the corridor outside the panel. That I more put down to bad organization than anything else.
I don't know if its a cultural thing, or an age thing.. but there was a marked difference in the 'maturity' level of people in the two. there was a large number of Children in Paris but they where a lot better behaved than in Florida.

What about me? I paid 100's per night at a hotel, and travelled to see mine-con, I couldn't care less about any of the 'famous' you-tubers do I get my own special few hours to look around without them or the kids who want to mob them? where are you going to draw the line?
Minecon needs help. Serious help.

Just venting a bit, still had a great time.
