I think it would be cool if we can dye birch wood planks (since the wood itself is nearly white already) so we can build different color houses and such.
I whipped up recipes for it too, the result would be 8 colored planks of the color you place in the middle.
Edit: Also if they can add colored stairs and slabs by crafting the colored wood like regular wood, that would be awesome!
Edit 2: 8 birch planks + 1 dye = 8 colored planks
What do you guys think? I just though of this last night and imagined myself building with this. I got too excited and had to post ASAP. I had a Minecraft moment you might say lol,
Couldn't you just build your house out of different colored wool instead?
I could, but maybe I want to build it out of wood? The plank texture would be cooler. Also if they can add colored stairs and slabs by crafting the colored wood like regular wood, that would be awesome!

I'd support but this is pretty vague still...One thing I'd like to know is how many colored/stained planks would you get after creating them (each)? It takes 8 blocks of birch planks (not stained) and a dye color, when you click A to craft it, how many of the colored/stained planks would it give? (Crafting these colored planks are a bit expensive I think...not completely but Birch trees aren't entirely common as Oak (until you get a tree farm started anyways) so I would hope you would get a bit)
This idea isn't bad though, I'd mainly use this for flooring if we colored/stained hardened clay (which I hope we do, I need stained hardened clay. They'd be better for walls and such in builds.)

I did say "the result would be 8 colored planks of the color you place in the middle." So 8 planks + 1 dye = 8 colored planks. The reason I chose Birch is just that, it's hard to come by until you get a farm going. Plus birch planks are the lightest wood.

Aaah, now I see that part in the OP. Hmm, that sounds about right of the amount you get back. I support. I also knew why you chose birch, said in my post but it may not be clear really...made sense to me anyways. Oh well, lol I never entirely make sense.
Not necessarily. Besides, wood isn't that great either, as it can easily burn down; just like wool.
I hate wools texture so I never use it, so again IMO it's horrible to use. (Except for carpets) I know they can both burn easily, but that's not my reasoning...and wood just makes more sense to use. Wood is actually better looking than wool too IMO.

Wool is pretty weak, and has a low blast resistance. Its better for building art, or bright colored projects. It also has a very bright coloration. Personally, I would prefer more subtle colors, and woods instead of wool

I agree with most of what you said, but i'd like to argue against the "Wool is horrible for building any structure IMO." Some people use wool, for pixel art.

I know wool is used for pixel art and if used correctly, it can look good. And well that's why I said "IMO". My opinion is that wool isn't good for building any structure that regards houses and buildings because of it's texture and the fact it's weaker; Except pixel art...it's good for that and carpets. Should've specified.

I would love to have colored woods in the game, it would make houses look so much better
Of course!

I could go on, I hope 4J/Mojang reads this.
If color wood would come, what would you build or create?
I'd love to build in different wood colors. It'd be great for aesthetic reasons.
Oh yes, you can. If you wanted to. But like others said, wool's texture is different, and is weaker.
I agree with most of what you said, but i'd like to argue against the "Wool is horrible for building any structure IMO." Some people use wool, for pixel art.
Which ever is easier for 4J that is
I would prefer it for Birch only, and birch is a really light colored wood. But if they added this feature to other types of woods, I woodn't mind
I see what you did there, and I completely agree. Only birch can be colored.
