I have the idea that rotten flesh should have more of a purpose than just feeding your dogs. I have chestfuls of rotten flesh without anything to do with it. I was thinking something along the lines of cooking it into leather, to make it more useful. Also, how about turning it into fertilizer? It should be equal to bone meal. One rotten flesh should be craftable into one fertilizer, and you can use it to grow crops.
I like the idea of smelting it into leather - especially for survival island maps or 404-like challenges; where cows are not readily available.
As a fertizer, perhaps not so much. (The thought of throwing rotting meat onto my garden just turns my stomach at little.) I think the supply of bonemeal is sufficient in most worlds unless the player plays only on peaceful, in which case zombies wouldn't be available either.) I wouldn't mind though if zombies were programmed to drop both rotten flesh and feathers, since I frequently run a little short of arrows in my survival island worlds where chickens don't spawn.
I'm indifferent to both, really. I see the purpose in turning it into leather, but then I'd have more leather than flesh afterwards (considering I have 7 stacks of leather already).
As for "Bone meal," there really is no point. Zombies and Skeletons are pretty much equal in spawn rate and Skeletons can drop up to 6 Bone meal each.
...And I'd rather not use dead peoples' skin to fertilize my plants....
You would rather use dead people's bones to fertilize than their skin? I don't see your logic in saying that. No matter what you use, you are still using parts of dead people. Zombies are tougher to kill, but skeletons are way more rewarding. Flesh has a lot of nitrogen in it making it good fertilizer.

I like the idea of bone meal for sure.
But. I say to be fair make it so you have to combine 6 or something to make it into one bone meal/fertilizer/whatever
I agree that its pretty useless, and just wastes a lot of space. At first, I was thinking that they should remove bone meal, and have rotten flesh replace it. But then we would end up with tons of bones, so I think instead, they should add fertalizer, which is crafted from bones and rotten flesh. Bone meal would only be used as a dye.

I agree with this suggestion. I have a double chest full of rotten flesh and because of the problems in TU15, I dont have dogs to feed it to.
* Turn flesh into leather - Support
* Turn flesh into fertilizer / bone meal - Support - I dont mind which body part fertilizes my plants as long as it helps them grow

I don't know about you guys but I've actually been saving as much rotten flesh as I can. I'm holding on to it if and when the 1.8 PC update ever hits the 360 because you'll be able to trade rotten flesh then. That may be in the next trillion years though... who knows.

By the time we get to 1.8, you'll probably already have loads of diamond goods and emeralds, so why would you even need to trade?
I agree with the idea that zombie flesh needs more uses; after killing a zombie and I see that it's dropped 2 - 3 pieces of rotten flesh, I usually avoid picking them, simply because I have no use for them.
I like the idea of being able to craft them into leather as for some reason, since TU16 I've had issues finding a reliable source of leather from cows. That along with books needing a single piece of leather to craft, creating a level 30 capable enchantment table has become that much more arduous.
There's not much point being able to make it into fertilizer because if a player is on peaceful, they don't have access to zombies anyway, and if they're playing on any other difficulty, they've got skeletons to provide them with bone meal.
Maybe if you add another item to them - something usually used for potions, like a Ghast Tear, or something like that - you can transform it into a safe food source. But then again it would still technically be zombie flesh, and the game has more than enough food sources as it is.
It's hard to think of additional uses for rotten flesh, although there do need to be more to make it a worthwhile item to pick up.
I agree with this post basically. Nice idea, but I don't think it should be used as a fertilizer. It should be used for a different purpose, like potions. We already have bones to make bone-meal, and you basically said a fertilizer and bone-meal would be the same. I support, for the leather idea only.

having arrow problems? build a sky mob farm! youll never need gunpowder, flesh, bones, string or arrows ever again, especially if you turn it into xp mode which leave em at 1/2 a heart to one punch killbut OT: why not have zombie flesh used for potions? maybe a potion of disguise
this potion, made from zombie flesh makes hostile mobs ignore you even if you attack them!
or a potion of nausea or blindness, when turned into splash potion a deadly tool in pvp!

Potions of invisibility will keep mobs from attacking (I think its bugged right now, but that's what its supposed to do)
I support the potion of nausea. It should also give you food poisoning.
Yes! I hate having so much rotten flesh, all it is really good for is feeding dogs (which I can never find anyway).
Fertiliser, maybe combining it with something for a potion ingredient.
Smelting into leather I'm not sure about, using it for smelting might be good though since people say zombies are scared of fire/ burn well.
I think when using it to burn it should be as effective as a wood log in a furnace.
It should be as effective as bonemeal when fertilising.
Could produce some sort of zombie virus potion that could be used to turn your character into a zombie, or villagers, maybe even animals?
Maybe it could be a less effective food source for dogs too.

Stay fluffy~
I'm all for crafting leather out of zombie flesh. I was thinking a 9 pieces on a 3x3 but cooking it first sounds like more of a balanced approach.

I'm not on a whole lot these days......... Probably takes me a real week to go through a two Minecraft days.

not sure if its bugged, at least on PC it isnt, they updated the mob AI and specifically made mobs see invisible players. might be the case here

Still worth bringing this back up and get half the discussion done with right away than having a whole new thread.
