Okay, I've seen numerous posts regarding having tools made of obsidian as a "successor" to diamond tools. While I'd like to see obsidian tools (they'd look so awesome), most ways of including them would make them overpowered. I thought of a way to prevent this and keep everything somewhat balanced:
Durability: infinite, this is logical given the insanely long mining time of obsidian. All of the tools and swords can break any block or attack anything and never break
Efficiency/Damage
Shovel: the obsidian shovel would have the mining speed of a stone shovel and will not drop flint when digging up gravel
Pickaxe: the obsidian pickaxe would have the mining speed somewhere in between that of a stone pickaxe and an iron pickaxe, and it would be unable to mine any ore except coal, and possibly iron
Axe: the obsidian axe would have the mining speed of a stone axe
Hoe: no change
Sword: the obsidian sword would have a damage somewhere between a stone sword and an iron sword, and mobs in the Nether would be immune to it.
I'm sure you guys won't like everything I've done with these obsidian tools, but it was the best way I could think of to balance them out.
I don't think any more tools are needed and feel as if 4j could make something much more unique, useful, and fun with their time. No offense, just my opinion.
interesting idea... Although I think it would be fine that it can be same as iron when determining things, as I think the drawback of this would be: It can not be enchanted. That would somewhat balance it out.
Now if it could be enchanted, then yeah less than iron, but at least the quality of stone.
I am not really all that interested in more tools in this sense, but wouldn't mind having more feasible weapons. On that note overall it is a decent idea.

its seems like a good idea but i think it should only last a bit longer than daimond tools not infinate because even though your trying to even things out now it just seems TOO weak that it would be waist of time to make them. i think it should work like daimond tools but just last a bit longer

I see what you're saying, but I kinda did it that way so we'd have tools designed to be used a lot (like digging up all the dirt in the map or a mob farm) that never break but still give some advantage over using your hand. Digging out a huge pit of stone would take a toll on any pickaxe (even the obsidian pickaxe you're suggesting), but if it had infinite durability, it would be much more practical. The "nerfing" was to make it so that you'd still have a reason to go back to your diamond pickaxe (say if you wanted to mine some more diamond or obsidian), preventing it from becoming overpowered.

The not being able to be enchanted thing wouldn't make sense to me, because obsidian seems to have some magical properties in Minecraft (using it to make enchantment tables and Nether portals). But despite that, it'd be a great way to nerf them

they need to make obsidian crack and break into 0-3 items similar to flint dropping from gravel or just drop regular obsidian so that you cant get them too easily because once you have one set of tools you'll never need it again unless you fall in lava
If it isn't going to be in the pc, it's probably not going to be in the xbox. Sorry to burst your bubble.
this is the xbox suggestion page and people from majong do read this so. the people from majong would tell 4j and there u go. i have high hopes for this

I'm just a Minecraft player that likes to give my opinion. Nothing special to see here.
