I allowed Minecraft to update from TU21 to TU22. TU21 was running fine in 2 player split-screen coop. Since we have updated to TU22, we now have extremely bad lag in 2 player split-screen coop.
Is any one else having problems like this?
If I do decide in clearing my xbox cache, is it possible to upgrade to TU21, and prevent 22 from installing, or can't you upgrade in increments.
Unfortunately, auto-updates through Xbox Live always force the most recent update. In this case, TU22. Although, I have heard from a few different sources that a backup of any update can be copied onto USB drive. Essentially, this would allow you to delete any recent update, and revert to a former update by copying it back from USB. I'm not sure if your world(s) would be allowed 'online' if you deny the current update, though. This shouldn't be an issue for you with split-screen co-op, though.
Just an addendum to Coodsworth's post... if one does backtrack an update by backing up to a USB in this fashion, be sure to backup your worlds as well and use the backup copies of the worlds after you\ve backtracked. Opening a world in an older update that has already been opened in a more recent one will corrupt the game save file.
Addendum: I just actually tried to save a Minecraft Title Update to a USB using the "Settings" - "System" - etc. It just came up with a notice that "This item cannot be moved or copied"... so, I don't believe that it is actually possible to backtrack an update by saving the update file to a USB before accepting the next update.
i had the same issue too with the lag looks like it came back again just like tu19.:(
i just figured it out this bad lag, were you guys on online games or offline, because there is a big difference playing online/offline, try playing offline lets see if you get the lag.:D
Prior to TU22, my friend and I, while in split screen coop, had no problems with game play in the nether. However since the update, my friend was being targeted and hit by wither skeletons and blazes. I tried to help him by killing these mobs, but they were invisible, however the fire falls and the weakness debuff did appear readily. I would expect this kind of behaviour from online lag, but not from split screen coop. The lag was so bad during our 3 hours of Sunday play, it took away from the fun we usually have. After this experience, we returned to the over world, but lag persisted, with very low frame rates, which took away from the smoothness of the game. It was not far off from being unplayable.
Previous to the TU22 update, we only ever experienced lag and framerate issues, if we were quiet some distance away from each other. This was acceptable. However, this is no longer the issue. Lag now just exists.
I've always found MC to be laggy with multiple players so I just accept it as the norm and haven't noticed it to be particularly better or worse than previously.

Hmm. I wonder if this is something new.
I was able to move the Title Update file to a USB drive no problem during (I believe) TU19.
I then pulled the drive and started a new MC world to see what would happen. It generated a TU8-ish map, but without a lot of the extras: no color variations for leaves/grass in swamp and snow biomes and a few other things that slip my mind at the moment.
The point is it used to be possibly.
I blame Microsoft....
Try turning off the clouds in the graphics options
I was having extremely bad lag also, and just turning off the clouds fixed it for me too. Even after turning them off, my game would spike occasionally, but not that often.
I have also been noticing a lot of lag when playing split screen whether it be local or online. Also I've noticed online play has been having some issues as well. While playing online in someone else's world, we get kicked out constantly. Also the game will lock up completely and we have to shut off the Xbox from the from button, controllers aren't responsive. I thought it was the game itself, so I erased everything Minecraft related and redownloaded. Still didn't fix it. Cleared cache, still locked up. Thought it was the hard drive, since its about 8 years old or so, replaced with new larger drive. Still locks up. I'm hoping next patch/update will fix this issue.

What era of console are you playing on. My son recently mentioned to me that he cannot play a number of his games on our older console, but can play them on the newer one (still an Xbox 360). Here on the forums, some people have always reported experiencing more lag than others... wondering if the era of the console itself has something to do with it.

It's a nebulous issue though.
Multiplayer tends to be more laggy for guests since they are at the mercy of the host's crappy connection. Keeping clouds On is a big No-No for any 360 user. Amount of animals, active RS, light updates, etc all play a part.
My console is an original launch version and I have not had terrible trouble with lag (barring the occasional internet issues I've had in the past).
