I don't know if this is the right forum to put this topic, but I don't see anywhere else it could go.
For the "Dinosaur Island" DLC on the marketplace, it says it's a "world". Does this mean if I want to have MC with dinosaurs, I HAVE to use this one world? It's not just dinosaurs spawning in the jungle biomes that could be used in any world?
If so, that is the single most disappointing news I've gotten for awhile.
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
I have not bought it, but I suspect the dinosaurs would be limited to just that world. They are most likely modified passive mobs that already exist in the game, so in order to change all your worlds to having dinosaurs, you would have to use an add-on, which this is not. I am tempted to try it out, but a bit cautious to part with my money in case it turns out to be not worth it.
Ok, this captured my interest and I fiddled around with the files a bit.
Officially you can only have the dinosaurs and textures and all the other custom stuff that comes with the purchase in their custom map. The resource and behaviour pack do NOT show up in the map settings for other maps.
You can copy them over from their minecraftWorlds folder to your own maps and then it will work just fine though.
You will need the following files/folder:
You can also copy the "dinosaurislandbp" into your main "behavior_packs" folder and the "dinosaurislandrp" folder into your main "resource_packs" folder and it will work just fine when creating a new world or adding them alongside other addons. (In screenshot 2 it works with the vanilla Coastal Village seed and a custom resource pack with some SMP and Pam's Harvestcraft textures, which I usually use. Strawberries!)
You do need to have purchased the world file through the store though!
As for your original question:
I think it is one of the best purchases in the shop yet! I haven't played the pirate themed map yet, but in comparison to the others, this one is really worth the money. You should get it.
Thanks for the in-depth reply, but that ultimately doesn't help me at all because I am a lowly console peasant, and will not have access or know-how to mod these dinosaurs into another world. I (and my group of friends I play MC with) are all also console players, and we have a world we've been building in for too long to start over (I have a beacon set up with over 200 blocks of emerald, for example).
With the way file-sharing/porting has been advertised by Microsoft, would I maybe be able to port the save over to my pc, figure out how to do that stuff you mentioned, then port it back and it would work on console?
