EDIT: HOW TO PLAY MINECRAFT MULTIPLAYER WITH UP TO 4 PLAYERS OVER THE INTERNET, FOR FREE AND WITHOUT KNOWING ANY NUMBERS!
Want to play Minecraft Multiplayer but confused beyond belief by all the networking mumble jumbo you need to know? Enter LogMeIn Hamachi! Free software that will get you doing Minecraft multiplayer in no time at all, and without needing to know any networking numbers!
After having created your network hit the "Deployment" button under Networks
Click "Add new link" then make whatever adjustments to the link you please, but make sure that the checkbox for your network besides "Networks" is checked.
Install the software via the link you just made.
Send the link out to your buddies and have them install the software.
Start up Minecraft and go into one of your single player worlds, then press Esc and open to LAN
Have your friends go into multiplayer on Minecraft, wait a bit for the scanner to find your world, then double click on your world to join it!
How to add someone into the network who already has Hamachi: (This part requires a number! You can do it, don't freak out)
Open your Hamachi client.
Hover over the arrow by your network with your mouse cursor to reveal the Network ID
Find the network ID, and write it down for later.
Have your Hamachi owning friend open up the Hamachi client, then click on the "Network" tab then "Join an existing network"
Have them put in the Network ID and password if your network has one.
Have them click "Join"
You're good to go!
If the scanner doesn't find your world then the Hamachi network wasn't set up properly, if you followed these instructions to the word then the network should be properly configured.
Mmhmm yeah and theres all those fun people who hack your computer to hell by tunelling to your computer when you use Hamachi.
I've never had any problems with Hamachi, nor have I seen anyone else have any problems with it. The only problem I've seen is people being scared of Hamachi. Unfortunately due to the way that the internet is set up, peer to peer is becoming impossible for the average computer user. The current internet model favors the server client connection, peer to peer technologies are nearly nonexistent, which is really a shame because peer to peer technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities for game designers and players. Hamachi brings us a bit closer to the peer to peer ideal by providing a server that breaks down the barriers put up by the structure of the internet.
