Hi there! My son plays Minecraft and we recently bought him a new computer. I was wondering if there were any config files that could be transferred to the new computer so that he doesn't have to set everything back up again from scratch. He is particularly concerned about losing the servers he's attached to. He doesn't want to have to re-enter them? (I won't even attempt to pretend that I understand online gaming. I grew up on Wolfenstein 1.0. LOL)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Minecraft saves its settings in the .minecraft folder. Open Minecraft on the old computer, click Texture Packs, click Open Folder, go up, and that should be the .minecraft folder. Back all the files in it up, and then restore them on the new computer using the same procedure.
Its located under the windows user profile. You can get there pretty easily by opening a folder, typing this in the address bar %appdata%, and then hit enter. Copy the .minecraft folder to a thumbdrive or something and do the same thing on the new computer to copy it over.
You'll also need to install Java on the new computer. Use the 64bit version if you have a 64-bit OS.
Thanks, but there is nothing in that folder. I even set it to show all files including system files and still nothing. Does this mean it's not running his config from the machine but from his account online?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

You may also need to get a new minecraft launcher, unless he likes to play through the web browser.
