ive been working on almost 40 hours total on a single texture pack, and i have over 3,400 downloads and counting, on planet minecraft i am level 32, is it possible to sell your work? what i plan to do is have my main texture pack which you can download for free after 2 weeks of the newest release
exp: release 1.0 (purchase)
release 1.5 (free if already purchased, two weeks after release, 1.0 becomes free)
release 2.0 (free if already purchased, two weeks after release, 1.5 becomes free)
release 2.5 (free if already purchased, two weeks after release, 2.0 becomes free)
the reason why i want to start selling my texture pack for personal use only is because im tired of turning what could be a "full time" job of textureing which is similar to painting on some levels, and then just handing it to people to use for their own use, and you dont even get as much as a donation its frustrating
Its possible if you used pay pal or something but an easier alternative that wouldn't cause rage and you would still get the same amount of downloads would be Adfly. Lots of mine craft artists use basically it just holds that at a page with ads for 5 seconds before they download it. You also get a few cents per download. I also advice this because your texture pack would be likely be illegally distributed if you charged for it and there would be very little you could do after it spread.
Selling a texture pack is a terrible idea, 1: Nobody would buy it. 2: In the off chance someone DOES buy it, it's likely they just bought it to spread it around the web, and you can't stop that. 3: You said 40 hours of work? That's nothing. That's less than half a week of Bill Gates's weekly work. I at least like your idea of the free old versions though.Like Aryden said, I recommend using adfly, you still get money, but people will still download it.

I can honestly say that with the vast amount of availble texture packs, most of which are beautiful. I would not ever pay for a texture pack. You would get nobody buying, or downloading your texture pack (in my opinion). I also believe it would ruin you. I know if someone was charging for something like that I would probably never download anything of yours in the future.
Don't be greedy, appreciate the fact you done good enough work for people to download.
Back with the psp came out I spent months working on a website to download available games, apps, demos, music videos. I made a version available for the computer and the psp. I made every image on those sites, I wrote every piece of code by my self. I tested every thing that was on my website. I made several portals as well. I had more than 5,000 hits a month, over 15,000 downloads for my portals. Guess what? I didn't charge a dime for any of it. I spent a minimum of 5 hours a day when I first got started testing, finding new information to put out. Eventually that died down and I spent less time on it. But never the less the point is don't charge for stuff people can get for free.
Word of advice, don't spend your time designing a texture pack with the intention to make money off of it from selling it because I can assure you that there are much better texture packs that are free. In fact, I've never seen anyone try to sell a texture pack..

Depending on how good it is. Can I try it out?
