Alright, the title and images will speak for themselves.. but here goes anyway.
I just bought minecraft today. I have always been a fan of the Yogscast, UberhaxorNova, CaptainSparklz, Tobygames, etc etc.. so, I do know a lot about the game by watching LPs, Ive been watching Xs adventures in minecraft sense episode 22.
So I installed the game, and I could immediately tell something was wrong. After ****ing about for almost 3 hours, trying to discover why the screen was messed up, trying to find any help at all on the subject, I decided to play the game through Minecraft.net, using the browser option.
Well, ok.. so THATS the minecraft I know, but how the hell am I supposed to zoom in? And I don't want to use my browser all the time!
TL/DR= When the game window is tiny, the game looks correct. When fullscreen, its entirely messed up. Screenshots below.
Here is when the game is very small, this screenshot LOOKS fullscreen to you because its and F2 taken screenshot, but trust me its taking up less than 40% of my screen.
Now, if I maximize the window, OR hit F11, this is what happens.
As you can see, half of the screen ( 20% from the left and right ) is GONE. I CAN'T WHAT I AM HOLDING!
I have more but, whatever this should do.
Alright, sense its like 4:30, and I need to go to bed and get some sleep, Ill be checking on this in a few hours.
some quick tech specs if anyone needs them for some reason.
Windows XP, SP3
Nvidia Geforce 7900 GS
AMD Athlond 64 Dual
Latest Java update ( literally JUST installed it 6 hours ago. )
My drivers are up to date, at least, as up to date as they will be for a 5 year old machine.
Ive asked all of my friends who play minecraft, which is a lot of them, and none of them have any clue what is going on. And 2 of them go to some fancy tech school RIT or whatever. They can't help.
Any help you guys have is appreciated, later days Ill be checking on this sometime when I wake up..
It's GUI autoscale. Just like watching a widescreen movie in fullscreen mode. The aspect ratio of the window versus your screen is different.
Yes, well.. one could only assume that the aspect ratio is out of sync, thats not the problem. If its just like "watching a movie in fullscreen", then.. where do I go to change it? Theres NO option in minecraft to change resolution unless I am really really missing something here. There is also NO option to do so anywhere in the folders, nothing to modify that hints at it.
Ok my resolution is wrong, we all kinda knew that.. thats not what were after, were looking for how to fix it. Anyway, gonna do what Mixmaster suggested, and update in a few minutes on how it went.
Edit: I followed all of your instructions, the problem remains. There has to be a way to fix this..
Incase anyone needs to know, my screen resolution is 1280x1024. If any of you know a way to alter the minecraft resolution VIA some kind of hack or mod edit. Because If I change my resolution to anything lower, everything gets all huge.. and having to scroll sideways for every webpage is a huge hassle.
Ill be getting back to work now, probably wont see another response from me for a few hours. Thank you all for the suggestions, anyone else who may be able to help is also appreciated.
It isn't a resolution problem, it's an aspect ratio issue.
The Minecraft window is nearly twice as wide as it is tall. You are reshaping it to be nearly square, therefore OF COURSE you can't see the stuff on the two sides. You've cut them off.
Minecraft let's you change the window ratio by grabbing the corner. Expanding the window will look different if you drag it straight down, or straight to the side, compared to diagonally as you change the aspect ratio.
