So I've had this problem since I started playing Minecraft.
When I set down a chest it looks fine if I look relatively straight forward, but when I look down to the ground my chests get a "shadow" on them either just at the top of the chest or all over (depending on how far down I look). It's not the glitch that started in 1.8 because it can't be fixed by putting a torch anywhere near the chest, and it's not because there are blocks close to it.
Also, my hand seems to get a shadow on it when I'm not holding anything, and that happens the same way the shadows on the chest happen; only when I look down at the ground.
Does someone know how to fix this problem, or is it just my computer graphics? Either way, someone please help! :biggrin.gif:
It would be very much appreciated, because this can get pretty annoying sometimes.
can you provide screenshots? and try adjusting the "smooth lighting" option, your gpu may not properly support its shading.
I have the smooth lighting all the way to 0% because it will cause me to lag but even with it up a little or even all the way it still does it. Also I found out the chests get the shadows when I'm close to a wall only, and the hand shadows up no matter which direction im looking except straight.
in the picture of me looking out of the window, that isn't the normal color of my hand. the shadow tends to change from really dark to a little lighter.
that's the thing though, I've had this problem off of optifine, and I am currently using Optifine Standard (not smooth or any other one) so I'm not really sure what to do. :x
i use standard as well, though i don't experience this.
if this happens with and without, it may be related to the entityrenderer. have you tried a force update? the only thing affected is animated(chest open, your arm is generated).

hmm, let me try to do that and I'll get back to you. I usually do force update when I want to make a brand new .minecraft folder, so let me try it again and see if it does anything :/

versions other than optifine standard have strange graphical errors on older gpu's. one of those happens to be what you're experiencing.
what are you using?
yeah it happens with signs for me too, i just don't use signs that much so i forgot about them :tongue.gif:
