How do you actually download 64 bit Java? I've googled it but I haven't been able to find it, it just gives me the update Java page.
Does it just get installed with a certain version of Java?
Is it something system/graphic card specific or what?
I tried to do that, but I think that you need to have a computer that is 64 bit. 64 bit Java is not compatible with 32 bit computers, and vice versa.
In the warning text that says you need 64 bit Java, I ignored it and never got a crash on my Minecraft. Try playing with "Far" fog on and see if it crashes, whatever you do in your world is automatically saved every moment or so.
I've played on far before, with a little lag, no crashes though.
And when I tried to install the first one it said I already had it on my computer.
I'll try the second link though. And yea, I think my computer is 32 bit, that could be the problem.
But I think I read that you can download something else that makes it 64 bit though...? Idk if that really exists, I thought I read it somewhere though...

I have downloaded and installed java 64 bit, but minecraft is still telling me that I need java 64 bit for far render distance, any clue why minecraft will not detect java?
try this link http://www.java.com/...load/manual.jsp its a manual download so you can pick either 32 or 64 bit! also as for minecraft not recognizing it, try uninstalling java completely from your computer and then installing the 32 bit THEN the 64 bit both (in that order), re-starting your computer might help as well, hope that helps!
plz help me! my computer has a 64bit operating system and i downloaded java 64bit but it says its not compatible with win32bit and a bunch of other crap!
First of all any software that's 64 bit runs significantly faster than 32 bit software.
To install 64 bit java you need:
1) A 64 bit OS
2) A 64 bit Web Browser
1) If you're on Windows 7 then right-click on "My Computer", then click "properties", It'll say next to "system type" whether you have 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System. If you have 64 bit then you can move on to the next step, if not, then too bad.
2) The only two stable 64 bit browsers I know of are:
-Internet Explorer (64 bit), an official 64 bit version (ew..IE).
-Waterfox, an unofficial stable 64 bit, but otherwise identical, version of Firefox (Firefox FTW!!!).
So get one of those (they're also a lot faster than their 32 bit counterparts), I recommend Waterfox, because as you probably know iE is terrible and firefox is quite nice and speedy.

my game runs twice as fast with the correct 64bit java.
This to check if your computer is 32 bit or 64 bit
To find out if your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows inWindows 7 or Windows Vista, do the following:
Open System by clicking the Start button , right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.
Under System, you can view the system type.
If your computer is running Windows XP, do the following:
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
If you don't see "x64 Edition" listed, then you're running the 32-bit version ofWindows XP.
If "x64 Edition" is listed under System, you're running the 64-bit version ofWindows XP.
