Okay so I am setting up a server and created the file startserver.bat but it will open for a second or less before instantly closing. It just flashes once and is gone.
Post your batch file contents in a [code] tagging. Will help you a lot as well us here trying to help you. Also is it a Bukkit or Vanilla Minecraft server?
I was told that you should use startserver.bat. But I already have a Minecraft server shortcut . . . any suggestions. I already have most if not all programs required for starting the server.
By the way I am rather new to minecraft and have no previous experience in setting up a server.

It is a BUKKIT server.
And I have Craftbukkit-.01 snapshot (executable jar file)
HEY it is working . . .and then stopped at PERMISSIONS.YML is empty ignoring it
New max size 484
How do I set the server options like password and how do I launch it after this
(thankful) "sigh" nearly there
So I just type my password into whitelist and save. Or do I need to input computer code around it first ?
In that case, look at this picture here. And ensure it is similar at most to it. As well the file locations "names do not matter on batch nor world".
Nvm scratch that, I will be back with Bukkit one.

Edit:
Here is how it should be for a bukkit server. Ensure your batch matches this one as well make sure you DID not rename or touch the name of the craft bukkit jar, craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar, should be its name.
Uh my bad, forgot not all uses java 7. Where it says "%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe", put 6 unless you are using 7, then leave it be.
To note, if you have not been to this tutorial. It is helpful and provided specially for bukkit.
There should be 2 things in the server folder, the Bukkit Snapshot "Do not rename it", and a batch file with these contents in it.
This is for Java 1.6_29
@ECHO OFF
SET BINDIR=%~dp0
CD /D "%BINDIR%"
"%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx1G -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
PAUSE
This is for Java 1.7_01
@ECHO OFF
SET BINDIR=%~dp0
CD /D "%BINDIR%"
"%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx1G -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar
PAUSE
LOL, no lol. We are not opening bukkit jar, you need to make a new text document and put Java 1.6_29 text in it I have up in the Code tag there. Not the bukkit, then save that new Notepad document as All Files, and put at the end of its name .bat and click Save.

If it says that then, then it is working. If this is similar to the screen now, then you are done and it is working and ready.
Without getting a plugin "advanced server stuff", the server only allows White List as its "password" as well online mode, offline mode allows anyone, even non legit players to enter so be they have means to. Add names of players you wish to only be able to enter the server to the White List txt file, restart the server or at most type reload in console. However sometimes that fails, so restarting is best.
No, if you enable White list option in the Server settings "Properties". Say you put my name, Flutterwry, in the White List text file. Only I can connect to the server, everyone else that tries to connect to the server gets a message and kick saying You are not White Listed on the server.
May be best if you PM me, will make it a lot easier to communicate about this. or I can PM you if wanted.
Any suggestions or ideas ?
Could you please specify?
lol i dunno. the code in the .bat file probably. :sleep.gif:
