Hello, I am runing a minecraft server for me any my mates/friends to play.
It was runing fine untill we stoped playing it for a day, and then it stoped. I hav not changed anything at all and am still runing the same mods, Buildcraft 2.2.4 and Industrial craft 2.
These were working perfectly but now when i run the minecraft_server.jar it starts up normaly says its runing, i can connect and play but my friends get "cannot reach server" this is annoying me, I have done a port check to make sure port 25565 is open. I test the server on the Minecraft server status checker page it was working but now then cant connect its showing as offline (http://gamewebb.com/msmp-server-check.php) I would of thought it would of been the port because everything was running smoothly and I thought the port might of closed somehow but it hasn't.
If anyone could help me I would appreciate it.
It is on insecure mode because only one of my friends doesn't have the bought version so but he is going to be geting next week:

Hey,
One problem It could be is you may have a Dynamic IP address which means each time your router/modem restarts (or you ISP might have a set time it changes) your internal ip (ipv4 address) changes. The only thing I can suggest is to re-check port forwarding settings especially the ip part of it. If everything is fine with your port forwarding then try backing up your minecraft server and then make a fresh server and see if it works, then go from there.
Also make sure you are giving your friends your updated external ip (that is if you have a dynamic ip) get it from ipchicken.com.

You blanked out your local IP that only people in your LAN network can connect to. Make sure the address you are giving to the players is your actual IP. You can find this at whatismyip.com

In my experience, it's more likely to work in 'offline' mode than online. Offline mode basically means the users connecting to the server aren't verified against the central servers, thus allowing people with cracked clients to connect, as well as legit folks.
If you really want to make sure the port is open and talking Shields up! is good for that. If it's not, recheck your router settings, and ensure that the port forward rules are still correctly pointing to your machine.
Will also list your external IP on the page, so make sure that's the IP everyone's using. If you're on a dynamic IP internet service then you may have had your external IP change.
As others have said, if this is the case, register for a dynamic DNS service so you can use a web address instead (will stay constant, even if your IP changes). There's plenty of sites to choose from.
Hi there port is defintly open im having no problem with ports my ip hasnt changed at all because i have my internal and external saved just to keep sure it doesn't, i will test some stuff out when one of my mates wake up today.... but thanks for the help and ill get back to yoy guys about it

Look, you've got a PC on a LAN connected to your ISP via a cable modem or something.
You PC IP address is probably something like 192.168.0.2 which is in the non routeable "private" IP address space.
huge numbers of people have that IP address in their house.
On the other side of you cable modem is a public routeable IP address that is assigned to you by your ISP.
This address probably changed because it's almost certainly a dynamic address.
The only thing you need to do is figure out what it is, and tell your mates the new address. What's my ip address?
Put your server back on the 192.168 address it was on, the one your local DHCP server handed out to it and that you configured for the port forwarding.

The external IP address is not on your server PC, it is on the device next to your cable modem (or on your cable modem). That's why you should have had to set up port forwarding somewhere. That forwards connections made to your external IP address to an local machine based upon the port.
Your server should bind to your local IP, and your mates should use the external IP. You should have port forwarding set up that connects those two things. Your problem is most likely because your external IP address changed.

HELP!
I have als left the minecraft_server blank, i have not touched it with any mods at all I have just changed server.properties
1) Is the server PC using a static IP (internal)? Or is it connecting via DHCP? I also recommend leaving the IP address in the server properties file blank. You need to make sure that the server PC has a static internal IP address. It also needs to be one that the rest of your computers won't use otherwise they could connect using the same IP address and then they'll both lose internet connection. One way of doing that is restricting the DHCP range on the server (ie. 192.168.1.2-20), and then assigning the server computer to a static IP address outside of that range (ie. 192.168.1.50).
2) If that doesn't work, check your DNS servers. My server was giving me the hardest time, and finally it turned out that I had the wrong DNS server IPs. If you google it, you'll be told to call your ISP, but don't be too hopeful as my ISP was no help. If they can't help you, then I'm not sure what is best; I reset my router and it found the DNS servers on its own, so you might check your router settings to see if they're in there.
Good luck! PM me if you have any trouble. I spent like a week troubleshooting my server before I got it working, so I know how it goes.
Um I just tryed using my external ip again, what i get is cant bind port
