Hi. I want to buy Minecraft for my son as a birthday gift but I want to make sure that it will be playable on our rather old computer systems before I spend the money. We've got a couple of G4 Macs - an 867mHz Titanium PowerBook and a MDD dual 1.25gHz desktop, both running OSX 10.4.11.
OK, now that everyone has stopped laughing, will Minecraft run under this config?
minecraft runs on everything, just better on some computers, i recomend throwing out the mac for a windows jkjk you might get some lag but i think your kid will live with some lower settings

It may BARELY run, If you do buy it I suggest you run it on lowest graphics, turn off smooth lighting and turn down the view distance. As a pre-caution you should try out Minecraft Classic and see if it even runs.
I did some research on your G4 mac powerbook and some people said they play Minecraft on it.
I have the newest mac so i'm not sure but for me it runs good! The only problem is I have to close my game before going on other programs because it will be slow.
Minecraft 1.8 does not work on Intel graphics under OS X versions less than 10.6.8, 1.9 onwards may work though.
Your OS X may also not support the required Java 6, you might want to check that.
Edit: 10.4.11 appears to not officially support Java 6.
I successfully tested Minecraft on a 1,67 GHz G4 Powerbook with ATI 9700 and Mac OS 10.4.11. It's not exactly fun, though. OptiFine should help, but wasn't compatible with Java 1.5 the time I tested, now it is.

I dont recommend buying it (though probably too late now) and what SPG said is a rubbish seeing as he has windows so he wouldnt know! If anyone can please help me with the correct architecture! Thx
The new launcher doesn't run on PPC. Use the Linux launcher. Learn more about Minecraft on Mac in the Mac Support 101 thread. There's also a link to a post on how to install Java 6 on PPC.
