Okay... So I've been at this for about 6 hours now trying to figure this out. I just bought the game because my friends always rave how awesome Minecraft is, so I outright bought it. I went to download it from the download page, but when I tried to log in via the 1.8 launcher, it says "Cannot Connect to MineCraft.net" and underneath "Play offline" it says "(Not Downloaded)".
First, I tried Force Download, no luck.
Then I tried updating Java.
Then I tried updating my video drivers (just in case).
Then, as advised on several websites and Youtube Videos, I went in and deleted my executable file as well as the .minecraft folder in %appdata%.
Then I tried restarting my Router (and my computer).
So then I tried playing it via the browser. It downloads most of it, goes to about 98%, then says "Download Complete" then it locks up my browser.
So then I went out of my way to download Firefox, same results.
THEN, I tried downloading a previous launcher, same results.
I even tried this retarded method of resetting my date/time I found which of course didn't work (but I was out of options so I tried it anyways).
In short, I'm getting pretty frusterated at this and have no idea what step I should take next. All my friends are able to log in at will, but I keep seeming to have this problem. I've seen multiple people experience similar problems with no solid answer (that actually works). I'm at a loss. Can someone please help me??
.....I just want to play Lego-I mean Minecraft.
Also: Tried tweaking Firewall exceptions and even tried turning Firewall completely off.
Okay. So I figured out my problem. Apparently because I was had an exclaimation point in my windows username it was causing issues with the connection.
Yeah, seriously. It makes sense though. The exclaimation point is used for a lot of commands. So it's possible having that as a username for windows could've been messing up the program. The other alternative to solve this is to make a seperate user account in windows for minecraft purposes.
Did your world disappear from minecraft? Is it corrupt? Lags? Can't move? "Saving Chunks" Crash? Crashes when you open chests? It can be saved!

Did I help? Press the (+) to the right, thanks.
Tried that already. Sorry, forgot to list that.
it happens when you alter somthing in the files. e.g. deleting meta-inf while installing a mod, or not having a backup of your .minecraft
again... delete minecraft from your computer then go to minecraft.net and redownload the client.
oh forgot to mention.. you may have to delete all of your minecraft folders and wipe them from your hard drive. including emptying the recycle bin
Tired that. Read my post. Also, I never tried altering anything. This happened the first time I attempted to download the game.
Tried that too.
Bump. Someone please help. :sad.gif:
I went on the mIRC channel and they had me download this workaround:

Fixed my problem. :biggrin.gif:
