So a friend of mine is having massive amounts of trouble with minecraft. He normally runs the game on the application instead of browser, and every time he attempts to log in, it tells him "cannot connect to minecraft.net", even when the site isn't down. He has great internet connection, he has an account, and all that stuff. So the application does not work no matter what.
He decided to try browser-based. The browser version logs him in fine, and he manages to get on. But apparently it only works for 1.8.1. He tried to connect to my server (which was 1.9 pre-release 2) and couldn't, so I asked him to update. He got the minecraft.jar and replaced the old one. Now the browser just gives him a white screen and nothing else.
Something is wrong here, and neither he or I can figure it out. If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

See? It's just like I told you. No matter what you do, you'll always be... Alone.
I think this is a wider spread problem than it being a client issue.
Because I know of quite a few people who can not log in today. And its only been today that it has happened.
And the fact that I was logged in not only 6 hours ago without any changes since then, I don't believe its a problem on our end.

What does that have to do with anything? He can't connect to minecraft.net itself, so he can't play online in minecraft.
