Okay, I know this is a current issue that plauges Java...but isn't there a way to increase the memory for the JVM/JRE that minecraft uses btw I'm on an x86 system...4 GB of memory installed...
1) Create a text file called mc.bat containing:
java -Xmx1536m -Xms1024m -jar Minecraft.exe
2) Save mc.bat in folder with Minecraft.exe
3) Run the game via mc.bat
Xmx1536m will allow 1.5GB RAM max to be used by Minecraft, this is about the maximum for 32-bit Java.
If this fails add 'pause' to a second line in the .bat and report back the error.
so basically what you are saying is that I need to make a batch(*.BAT) file with those parameters inside it?
the client is using JAVA and java loves memory usage..but it doesn't recycle that memory very well...so if we could figure out how to reprogram the thing to recycle its memory so it won't run out of memory...

Yes or a shortcut like so:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1536m -Xms1024m -jar "E:\Games\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"
Amending last path as required.
I give the batch file one more as some people struggle with amending the paths!
yea tbh I generally let things slip while games are still being worked on but this particular issue has been in the engine for quite some time and other then an error message being added to the game I haven't seen any official word on the problem actually being worked on.
In the past it wasn't too bad I could play for an hour or so before it would crash but since 1.8 if I'm above ground building, exploring or even sitting still it will crash every 2 minutes, if it's night time and I'm fighting above ground it crashes every 10 seconds so basically if I want to play the game now I have to stay underground where for some reason it lasts around 30 minutes, and yes it still crashes on the lowest of settings which to be honest isn't a fix for a bug that hasn't been looked at in nearly 2 years.
Now with all that said I'm not mad just slightly disappointed that with the quality of work being added into this game the devs have yet to fix a pretty major bug.
I couldn't have said it better. I would have been more blunt about it, quite honestly. And it's gotten worse. 1.8 apparently uses much more RAM (on the server side) than its predecessor(s).
Throw your computer into a camp-fire.

"bad command or filename"
"Could Not Create The Java Virtual Machine"
Doesn't work.
Doesn't work and it's an ad.fly link.
I understand it's beta so I don't complain but we can be honest, right?
OT: I'm having the same issues. I'm going to try to allocate more memory and see how it goes. Thanks for that!
apparently it's the way JAVA is. It tends to use memory without recycling it.

You can use a modified EXE instead of a bat file, my topic above should explain it well enough.
