My friend XxBowDownxX and I were messing around with my CPU the other day and I figured out how much of an idiot I was. This whole time I had been running on half of my processing power. I went into the "Start" (I use windows Vista 64b) and serached for an application by the name of "msconfig". When I ran the application I clicked the "Boot" tab, and went to "advanced settings" then I went to processors and switched the number to 4, because I have a quadcore processor. I was only using half the power the whole time :/ I think this works on Windows OS systems Vista or later. XP may work I am not sure. Mac or Linux users sorry, but thats a little out of my knowledge ^.^ If this works for you, some feedback to bump the thread would be greatly appreciated. And some rep points if you are feeling real generous.

So it only works if you run windows and have a quad core?
Wow thanks a lot.... it works WONDERS
Look before you go ragin' on kids maybe a little reading can help :biggrin.gif: I never said it wouldn't work on another OS, I simply said I only possess the knowledge to do this on a machine running Windows. Besides, your computer may already be using all of its processing power. I'm trying to help is all. And plus, you just need a computer with multiple processors or cores, not necessarily a quadcore, which lots of computers within 4-5 years old have.

This thread is misleading and can lead people to problems. For windows 7 and Vista the default is to use all processors during boot. What you are effectively doing is "limiting" the boot processies to using 1 core, 2 cores etc etc. you do not need to change this setting. Processing on multiple cores can be done using mods like Optimine/fog. This "fix" has been known to throw off other vital programs during boot, and to decrease battery life on laptops.
What you are effectively doing is forcing your computer to use ever core on your processor during boot, even if the need to use all 2,4 or 6 is not there. Messing around in MSconfig can lead to major issues with your computer and I advise reading multiple guides or asking an IT professional before mucking around in it.

Nobody else has encountered problems with it. :/ Not much I can say, just giving general advice. How can turning on another processor mess with the computer? Anyways, bumping the thread guys.
it worked wonders for me, THANKS DUDE
+1 rep for you

Topic title should be changed since it's misleading and doesn't help anyone out that doesn't have a similar computer.
