Ok so I new to servers and what not, and I'm not even sure if a "server" is the ways to do this.
Now I would like to make it so that me and 1 or 2 other friends can play on one of my worlds. Not quite sure how to do this and I have look on the web only to find misleading and unclear answers. So I need some help.
I have minecraft beta 1.4 and just want to play with 3 people on one of my worlds.
I run a home server for family so I think I can explain this easily enough for you to understand as you're new :smile.gif:
Make a folder on your desktop and call it MCServer
Go to minecraft.net and download minecraft server.exe
Save that file to MCServer folder.
Run that program and you should be good to go.
Just go to whatismyip or something like that and copy and paste your IP address into minecraft when you click on multiplayer.
If you connect to the server just fine then that's a good sign and give out your IP
If that doesn't work or your friends can't connect.... We have a problem.
You will need to open a port on your router.
There's no easy way to explain that as all routers are different.
So it's best to ring your ISP and have them explain it for you.
The port you need to forward will be 25565.
After the port is forwarded just type in your IP again e.g. 111.111.111.111:25565
And you SHOULD all be able to connect fine.
However before you even start this be sure to check how fast your upload speed is.
I use this to test my internet download and upload speed: http://www.speedtest.net/
So long as your upload speed is above 1.5Mbits you should be fine with your server.
(Note I say upload not download)
Alright I downloaded the software but every time i try to run the server software i just get that windows "dong" sound and nothing happens. Any help is appreciated.
