Redundancy. Has Mojang heard about it? The auth server, being critical to online play, needs at least 3 layers of redundancy. That way, when the first server fails, the second automatically steps in. If the second fails, the third automatically steps in. Ingenious eh? No, just standard stuff for important hardware.
Mojang, Please hire some consultants to design an efficient system, the one you've got isn't much good.
Absolutely no idea what your talking about but it sounds good :smile.gif:
Seriously though... why doesn't he help us out here? He needs to do something about this, we paid for it! One day soon there will be one of those threads where people are lining up to sue him in a group attempt. Plus this new chunk load is some crap, the lag is unreal, even on top notch computers. I can't even connect to my dedicated bucket server right now, none of the admins can. There are others connected but we cant get on to watch our server! This is frustrating.
Are u running windows?
if so, use task manager to set the priority to high.
Notch doesn't just waste his millions on buying the server. He creates the server himself, and does his very best to keep it going, with a few other workers who also work at Mojang. It seems to be a bug with the Version 1.3 Server, and today I do beleive Mojang has been doing small tweaks and update tests on the server.
Once again, They do their very best for us minecrafters, to keep it going. If theres something that cannot be solved, it cannot be rushed. Wait patiently, if you cant, find a diffrent game.
Also, don't complain about the prices. It great, even if the severs down. You also had about a week to get a refund if you didn't like it.
Regards,
OldSkewl
Can I buy pot from you?
First. Are you talking about a physical server or the server software? If you are talking about the physical server even if he does put the server together himself he still has to buy the parts. if you are talking about the server software then he doesn't have to pay a cent for the best software out there. Apache, the software he should be using not this java ********, IS FREE.
Second. This downtime isn't caused by the Minecraft game servers it's caused by the login (gateway) server which is essentially just a web server that is essentially OVER LOADED. Mojang isn't working on fixing anything today because they are at GDC which has been stated several times.
Third. No one is complaining about the price of the game. They are complaining about how they paid for a game that is now no longer working at the capacity for which they paid.
Fourth. Your comment about the refund within a week of the purchase is invalid. We all love the game and most of us purchased is months ago long before this became a problem.

if ur running windows, pull up task manager and set task prority to high
I rly helps, & mine isn't new ot top notch it it runs it ok when I do that.
There are a number of issues that are all contributing to the mess that all of us are experiencing:
1. This is an issue that has persisted for several weeks. This means that there has been quite a lot of time to investigate and come up with a solution that fixes the problem. This has not happened.
2. Customers have spent money and expect to be able to use the product they purchased. Bugs are to be expected. This is a beta. However, issues that completely stop a function of core gameplay should rarely occur and should be short-lived. If Mojang did not want heat for this they should have had a private/free Beta. They did not.
3. The server status / expected downtime messages are vague. Simply tweeting 'Sorry about the downtime' is not sufficient. In the rare event of an expected outage (which shouldn't happen with proper planning and testing before releasing) legitimate providers of network-based services will give exact time windows e.g. 6AM to 12PM PST. This normally happens multiple days in advance of the outage.
4. If an unexpected outage does occur, there is 24 hour staff monitoring the issue and jumping in immediately. As far as we currently know, the entire Mojang staff is at the GDC with tumbleweeds blowing through the office in Sweden. Their customer base has grown large enough where they need to employ a support staff to ensure constant uptime.
5. If there is someone employed by Mojang/Amazon working on this issue, this message is displayed prominently in a location that is easy for customers to find. Scanning Twitter/Blog posts is not the same as an official support portal with frequent updates.
The current state of things is that paying customers are without a service they paid for. Customers do not have difinitive proof that anything is being done about it (are they working on it or at the GDC) and do not know when it will be rectified. This is a recurring issue.
I understand that some people have an allegiance to Mojang employees. I applaud Mojang for being very visible/accessible via Twitter and so forth. However, there are improvements that need to be made here and should have been a while ago.

The auth server does not use Java. It's most likely a standard rack server, running Apache. The js extension means JavaScript, and is a valid choice, as the only output is '0' or the error code.
Err, isnt the Amazon Cloud System as easy as clicking a button to enhance your server? IE thats the point of cloud, it adapts to load on the fly?
Or is the Amazon Cloud system a lemon?
It's not as easy as clicking a button. It makes it easy to start up more servers to balance the load, but someone COMPETENT has to set up the servers to work in parallel properly. Unfortunately for us there seems to be no such person at Mojang. People playing Farmville and Cityville were more lucky I guess.
Amazon cloud servers are not meant for hosting entire websites. They host files to be served to visitors. Files such as images, software, etc.
These cloud servers can not run the login (gateway) server.

Wrong the server uses java. The server outputs java style errors and the response headers indicate that it's a java based server.
Hey Notch. Not to be mean or anything but I mean really... PLEASE upgrade your servers. I've just ecome a member and I've heard of the server downtime and every thing. I am really upset about this because I spent $20 to buy a game that looked fun. I have played it and it has been fun but it's been down the WHOLE DAY. Please take this into consideration when I say, and mostly all of the Minecraft members, PLEASE upgrade your servers. THANKS!

You're either admitting to poking the server in places you shouldn't, or you're fibbing. Either way, I know what's correct and don't need to convince you of it.

Actually the extension is jsp (Java Server Page). Which clearly indicates it's a java server.

I have a suggestion for you guys. Eventually when minecraft.net is back up, why not download it? I downloaded it and added it to my start menu so I can play all the time. It's simple. But the online multiplayer servers would be down when the sites down.
And don't get me wrong now, I'm pissed off the site's down aswell. I really need to change skins since I made a lot of nice ones that I like. So hopefully the site will be back up soon.. But it's been down all damn day...
EDIT: Oh well I think you all are talking about the multiplayer servers
So I'm no help lol

I think you missed the point that if the sites down, we cannot get on multiplayer servers. It's not really an issue of which client you use.
