Hey i recently died whilst i was mining and cant find my stuff. is there any way i can access previous save files? i know how to get to my current save files but how can i access saves from two days ago or one day ago or the last hour? is it even possible?
Sorry to say this but, I thinks all your stuff is gone. You can only get your stuff back if you recently backed up your "saves" folder in the ".minecraft" folder or know exactly where you died. And if you died in lava then it's best you forget about it and start anew.
The only way to get your stuff back is to remember exactly what you had and "cheat" it into your inventory.
I've done this a couple times when I felt that the game glitched me into not being able to get my stuff back. HOWEVER... I'm talking about I had mined for three days and found five diamonds total, and I was moving them from one chest to another, and the game crashed and blackscreened while I was moving them... Resulting in the diamonds not being in either chest AND not being in my inventory.
It doesn't sound to me like the game glitched and cheated you out of your stuff, and you want to undo the glitch... Sounds to me like you barreled head-first into a giant cave system and died without marking your path or knowing where you were... in which case, you lost your stuff fair and square by the rules of the game! (Yeah I've done this a few times, and in those cases I sucked it up and took the loss because it was MY fault.)
So, I'll tell you that there IS a way, but I'm not telling what it is, because using it would be cheating and there would be no point in playing anymore. (I'm telling you it exists because if you figure it out, you'll have learned a few things that might be good to know!)
(That way is also a pain in the butt and takes some time and setup and troubleshooting, and you might have to learn some things about networking and manually editing config files to get it to work. i.e. the "useful" things to know.)
Hey thanks for replying... I guess I'm gonna have to chalk it up as a loss. I didn't find diamonds but did get a crap load of coal and iron. Yeah it was my fault I didn't back it up and yeah I was lost in the caverns but I think I'm going to rebuild my two new houses in the sand and next to the caverns that killed me. I'll use the backup i have without having explored the caves AND without my two new DOPE houses. But thanks for letting me know that such a thing exists in this awesome game.
A WORD TO THE WISE:
Don't play this game drunk without having made a backup of your files!!!
Often your stuff will be gone even if you DO know exactly where you died.
I also learned the hard way to back up the save file OFTEN, as in OFTEN. Created worlds have a habit of
disappearing/getting corrupted. Back up, since gathering resources, particularly the ores, is incredibly tedious and
time consuming. Diamonds are so rare they're not even worth looking for.
Now, before anyone flames me for cheating, I would like to say that I only use this for huge projects.
I suggest using INVedit to get your stuff back. (Google search it, because the search on here takes FOREVER to find the topic.)
I was avoiding mentioning that because once you have it set up the floodgates are released. The seal is broken. Anytime you get annoyed you lost something or can't find something you can just be like "fine I'll invedit it in to save some time."
All he lost was some coal and iron... IMO if you barrel drunkenly down a huge cave with all your stuff in your pockets and end up getting 'd, you suck it up, learn a lesson, go mine for like 20 minutes and get it all back super easy. I've found so much coal and iron I rarely even bother to mine it out. Throw invedit into the mix and there's too much temptation to give yourself diamond tools and such instead of figuring out how to efficiently explore new areas and keep your stuff safe... which involves carrying wood blocks so you can make a chest and a workbench every now and then. :smile.gif:
