Me, my friend, and my brother haven't been able to connect to ANY servers. We get ethier an End of Stream error, a Took Too Long to Log in, and this:
java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 503
Me and my brother are on the same network, but my friend is on a completely different network. Not only can we connect to my server, we also can't connect to other servers. I know 503 means Service Unavalible, so the ultimate question is: ARE THE MINECRAFT SERVERS DOWN???
Getting it here too. The Minecraft servers are overloaded, despite minecraft.net being hosted by Amazon's cloud. Maybe they just don't pay for that much power in the cloud.
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable: Back-end server is at capacity

If you're receiving a 503 http error or are receiving a "Took too long to login" error message, then the minecraft.net login-authentification server is offline/overloaded
Overview: The server migration to the Amazon S3 server that happened a few weeks back was completed. However, Tobias and other mojang members were receiving error after error with the server. So, until they can find a better suitable host, they are running the login/authentification server off of a cloud server.
So as a little reassurance, if youre getting those two errors, try going to http://minecraft.net, if it wont load for you, then the server is down.

Still... Minecraft.net isnt the problem.
The problem is that many servers are "lying" to us in a way. For instance: (I am not blaming you Pixelville. Its may be a problem with my internet) The servers are saying:
If you can connect to minecraft.net, then the server (minecraft login-authentification) is overloaded. Keep trying to login is all that we can say.
My server atm is also online so it's not the servers' problem. Basically it means that the servers are good to go, but noone can even login to the game to get to the servers.
Is there anyway to allow players to get onto the server without minecraft.net being up its a pain having people complaining to me and not being able to fix it.

This would be a good idea for as for as often as this is happening. This is worse than usual, but I do see this problem at other times. Allow the server to remember people that have authenticated to it before. That way the on time this is an issue is when a new person tries to connect to a new server for the first time. This would be a great help and reduce a lot of load you are seeing with the authentication servers.

Unfortunately no, every time a person tries to log into a server, the server and the client both ping minecraft.net to authenticate the user (idea behind it is to keep people from using a single acct on diff computers to login at the same time). :sleep.gif: It does get annoying as a server host myself to get pm after pm saying "Hey restart the server, im getting a 503 error". And i check and minecraft.net is down/overloaded.
As kevmar said it would be a good suggestion. I would bump this thread 1,000 times to see this 503 server error fixed.

But I can connect to minecraft.net

ONLINE
Is this a trick?
This question of course is a Minecraft problem. But this question was recenly asked on another Topic.

We actually are on a cloud server, however the capabilities that they expected to see aren't there unfortunately.

I really hope Notch spends some of his gobs of cash and gets a better server/streamlines the login code....
