Not really that big of a deal, but I figured I would post here in case anyone knows where I'm going wrong.
When I go ahead and add the Minecraft.exe to the Non-Steam Game List and run it through Steam it'll open up, and register that I'm playing the game in Steam.
However I can not access the in-game overlay and about 2 seconds after the game launches Steam goes from "In Non-Steam Game: Minecraft" back to "Online".
I noticed two of my friends seem to have it working just fine, but they aren't doing anything different.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help! :smile.gif:
Why do it in Steam? (I don't know what the heck Steam is, just try not to use it.) Download minecraft.exe, move it to your desktop, and run it. (Double-click it)
Are you launching the game directly by the EXE or through a shortcut? I know when I launched the game via a shortcut Steam, for some reason, wouldnt pick it up. I ended up making a shortcut to the folder on the desktop, then going in there and launching minecraft directly.
Its easy to spend 6-12 hours on minecraft and not even know it, and when its in fullscreen you have no idea when someone in Steam messages you, thats the reason for having Minecraft go through Steam. :smile.gif:
What is actually running when you play Minecraft is javaw.exe or java.exe (You should be able to see this in Task Manager), can try adding one of those instead?
Yeah, but then it only launches Java and not actually Minecraft... how would I make Steam open JavaW.exe -> Minecraft.jar?

Edit: OK that doesn't explain why it works for your friends!
Yeah, really... wtf. Mind = Blown

I've been linking it to the .exe directly, but I'll actually try linking it to a shortcut instead for the luls, maybe it will work.
EDIT: Didn't work. :sad.gif:
EDIT2: Well, I managed to get Steam to keep the game saying that I'm playing it by downloading the .jar version of the launcher and running it through that. Good enough I guess, but it's still not letting me using the In-Game Community.

Alot of peoples steam cloud isnt working right now, mine doesnt either along with a bunch of people I know...it has something to do with the coding for steam cloud and the new beta version of steam you can opt in to try.
Hopefully Steam fixes this problem soon, its pretty annoying

I don't quite think that's the problem.
For one I am not opt into the beta, and secondly it works in every other game. :\
Still, at least my friends will know I'm playing Minecraft now and won't think I'm simply ignoring them.

You would normally open your library and click on "add a non steam game blabla" and then a window pops up offering you a (kinda untidy) list of apps you can put in there. Theres also a browse button at the bottom of the window, don't click on it, just select the minecraft icon from the first list (untidy one).
9 times out of 10 it's not going to be listed so you have to browse for the exe and I've got it working doing that. Not sure what the problem is for this guy.
By the way OP, the Steam community works in Minecraft when in a Window. No need for fullscreen.
Yep, non-fullscreen community works for me...also, when you add Minecraft.exe, you have to launch it from within Steam, otherwise it wont list as being played

So I don't have to exit fullscreen every time I receive a message.
Not the point of this thread at all... I can run the game itself fine, I'm no computer noob. Just can't get it to work with Steam for some reason.

Well, steam won't let me add .jar files. Only exe.
Edit: yes, you can go to the community while playing a non steam game.

How did you do that? I can't get mine to.
