This was possible in alpha, but since the beta release I have been having one hell of a time. My apologies if this has already been addressed, please direct me to the thread. I have been troubleshooting this for about three weeks... I feel that 64bit mode is the only option because I am attempting to run 256x256 textures.
Anywho, can someone help me out here? I get this error message when attempting to run the .exe
---------------------------

No JVM could be found on your system.

First, don't recommend I download the latest 32-bit java platform. You will be missing the point entirely (unless, I only have to run the .exe with 32bit java, and then can alter the .jar) I am currently installing the 64bit JDK to see if it will work when implemented solely.
If this doesn't work, do I...
a) Modify the .exe & if so, how?
:cool.gif: Modify the .jar & if so, how?
I have no trouble whatsoever running the minecraft_server.jar in 64-bit mode.
minecraft runs in whatever java/OS version combo you have installed... if you install x64 JAVA then javaw.exe and not javaw.exe *32 will run and that has NOTHING to do with texture pack res limitations.
That error looks like either you don't have an x64 OS or you x64 java install is screwed along with your x86 (meaning you installed both with is fine)

your response seems to have no contextual relevance to my issue. Texture res limitations are not my problem. My problem resides in 32bit operation RAM limitations. Thanks anyway.
as you can see, I only have 64bit java installed, and am running 64bit OS. Observe the error message, it states "define EXE4J_JAVA_HOME to point to an installed 32-bit JDK or JRE" the .exe seems to be the issue, can I edit it so that it points to the 64-bit jdk/jre? I find it more and more tiresome when getting 'assistance' pertaining to this issue from individuals who obviously only run 32bit mode & according to some kind of gospel, refuse to realize that this runtime environment is undesired from a highres standpoint... If you have realized a way to get 256x256 textures with animations running in a 32-bit environment without memory errors, by all means share it with me. However, I want 64bit mode running because I am quite positive that the 32bit crowd has all the help they need. It would be ideal if some of us were to begin tinkering with this program in 64bit mode, dontchathink?
I understood you wanted java x64 installed and to have minecraft RUN in x64 environment (thought you were trying to "mod" minecraft to make it do that when it doesn't need it").
Either way Uninstall ALL java versions, then manually download and install x64, do NOT use a x64 browser or anything that suggests it will "automatically" give you x64 java as it tends to screw up.
then you CAN download x86 java and install it just fine, MINECRAFT will use x64 version and x86 will only be called when required to (java used in firefox for example).
EDIT:
Either way though, the 256x256 will NOT run animated as the program (not x64 vs x86) does not support it period. It could be coded to ONLY be an x64 program and it wouldn't change the texture pack support, it's like trying to add normal mapping to Unreal Tournament because you rewrote UT into a native x64 program.

have you installed the x64 version using the minecraft.exe with nothing but x64 java installed?
see my EDIT: and yes I ONLY installed x64 at first. I installed x86 a few days later.

Sorry if I come across as rude, don't take offense, I speak for more than myself. But, if I do install a 32bit sdk, will I need to modify the .jar? BEcasue I have tried this option and minecraft will always run with the 32bit java. Do I need to create a new launch file to instruct the game to run in 64bit mode? Much like is done by adding the -d64 variable to the server?
you also say that 256 animations aren't supported, but I beg to differ. Perhaps things are a bit different. I don't know, but we've go 256x256 texture mods that have animations these days... maybe they aren't, but you can always see for yourself... http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=136785
All I know is the 32x32 HD patch was put in PLACE along with MCpatcher specifically to FIX the packs from displaying 1/4th of a BRICK as fire/water and fix animations.
As for modding MC.exe or a .bat you have no need to do that what-so-ever. It will seek out your default java environment which should be x64 if you install them correctly. Remove all java versions (add/remove programs), reboot, download x64, install and try running mc.exe.
EDIT: viewtopic.php?t=46173
that would be what I mean... if you have to apply a FIX for anything over 32x32 default then the game does not SUPPORT it, that doesn't mean it cannot be modded. Running the game in x64 doesn't magically make those HD packs work WITHOUT that fix either.

If you can reply using the easiest syntax possible. Are you saying I need to
Install 64bitjava>install 32bitjava>installMC>uninstall 32vbitjava>playminecraft
because this doesn't work...

Instructions: Uninstall every version of java you have.... old, x64, x86, EVERYTHINg, clean registry ect, reboot,
go to java's page, manual download using firefox, get x64 and install. reboot.. run minecraft.exe
And yes, make a .bat to launch the jar... people do that to force allocate ram with xmx and xms settings.

Okay, I removed all javas, ran reqistry cleaner & rebooted. Installed 64bit JDK & got the same error when attempting to install from .exe. Am I to install using a 32bit sdk & execute the .jar with -d64 using a batch file?
you downloaded that and installed it and got what error? No x64 java installed you can't run minecraft in java x64...
... How come I can run the server in x64? This is all related to the .exe file. Once I install minecraft, I can use a .bat & the command prompt to troubleshoot all of this. Now I just need a decent resource on making a batch file & using cmd...
ugg, posting more info... one min.
I'm using the 64bit jdk, which comes with 64bit jre6. I just installed 32bit jre6 & ran minecraft.exe . Aparantly, this all needs to be done in 32 bit mode, which seems like a critical point to make clear. Once this is finished, what can I do, or rather, can anyone direct me to a thread/tutorial on how to do this. I suspect it would be a java tutorial, so I am currently looking too... grr...
