In the last month I've been getting the black screen of death, where i have to force restart my computer.
I've only been able to play my game for an hour or so before the game crashes, and every time i close it [before it does crash] i get a wordpad file on my desktop that is named hs_err_pid####
It appears to be a java problem, and i'm not sure how to fix it or if anyone has fixed it/can fix it. I'm running on windows XP, my video card is a nVidia 9400 GT.
So far I've done this; uninstalled minecraft and reinstalled it. updated my video card drivers uninstalled and reinstalled java, and then updated it. I've changed the render distance, and i only have Fast graphics on and it still crashes.
I've only been able to play this game on the browser.
:/ I'm at my wits end with this game, its getting frustrating and annoying.

Thanks, testing it out now @__@
Even if you had done 768M and the game crashed, it looks like even that could have exceeded the available memory.
In addition, make sure your view distance/fog is set to a low setting, if not the lowest. Less fog = more blocks = more memory used.
I shall try that, And thanks.
