Ok, so when I had enough Obsidian to build a portal to the Nether, I just built one randomly. However, I wanted to spend the time to make a proper portal so I built the portal seen in my avatar. Both portals link to the same place in the Nether, which I expected to happen. It's a really nice part of the Nether, so I'm actually happy it happened. However, I want to destroy my original portal but I don't know if that will cause the portal in the Nether to get destroyed and a new one formed when I go through the second portal I built in the real world.
If you're confused:
Portal A was built in the real world 1st. It links to Portal B in the Nether. Portal C was built in the real world, also links to B. If I destroy Portal A, will C still link to B, or will B be destroyed and C will form a new Portal D in the Nether?
EDIT: Not sure if this actually belongs in support, but it is a Minecraft-related question I need help with before proceeding.
Hmmmmmm, I have a hunch that it might, but, if it were me, I'd start up a new world and try it on there first, then just use INVedit to get obsidian and test it out.

It should not destroy your portal to the nether, but if it does then the other portal in your world will just create a new one upon entering the nether the next time. So everything should be okay for you to destroy it.
Well, I tried it and the results were...interesting. I destroyed portal A. Portal C still linked to Portal B in the Nether. However, going back through Portal B created a new Portal D in the normal world a large distance from Portal C. Since there is some wall near Portal B, I think I'm going to destroy it and build a portal in the approximate position that a portal would need to be for C to link to it. Do you think that would work?
but you could also try destroying portal D, going to the nether with only a iron pick and destroying portal B then killing yourself destroying portal C fixing it and then go to nether and back.
also just in case you don't know you only need to destroy one block for it to be considered destroyed.
I completely removed my first portal, then i built a new one (to make sure ghasts don't spawn in overworld and burns my house -___-) and it made me come to same part of the nether :smile.gif:
