To those having the problem with the “965 chipset family” This is something you may want to check into. Dell said the game needed a 64 bit O.S. I was running Windows XP.
I wouldn’t let them install Windows 7 because I need XP for another program that has to run on this computer.
They had to install better drivers and it turned out I had viruses and malware and that was preventing the updates that would allow the Minecraft to work.
So I hope this helps some of you. Get with your Manufacturer and get them to check out your computer for viruses and upgrade the drivers.
Tell them the problem and if you can have Windows 7 installed it will make it easier to get the game to work. Mine works now.;)
Okay, so I found a resolution that worked for me on windows xp even if you have OpenGL version 1.4 like I did in the above post. It's actually pretty easy.
1. Right click on desktop.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Click on the Settings tab.
4. Click on Advanced.
5. Click on Troubleshoot tab.
6. Next to Hardware acceleration, drag indicator to the third notch from the left.
-It should say, "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations, as well as all cursor and advanced drawing accelerations. Use this setting to correct severe problem with DirectX accelerated applications."
7. Click Apply, OK, etc...
-If this works like it did for me, ENJOY.
You're amazing. Totally fixed my problem. If updating your drivers and Java don't work, definitely do what this guy says before anything else.

I'm also known as TANNAR in some places.
Yes. I have the exact same specs and it works for me.
