It will only work if you are playing the game on Normal Render to not encounter the Black Screen of death then the binary Se has stopped working error.
I had the same issue i have an Asus N53J Laptop with intergrated graphics, MC would run fine if i used the crappy intel gpu and give me a whole 15fps so i switched to my nvidia card with Optimus and it would just blackscreen and say java has stopped responding. I tried 4 lots of nvidia drivers uninstalled java over and over all to just have it happen over and over again, but then i tried a beta version of Nvidia drivers 270.51 for my GT425m 1g and it started strait away with over 300fps ^^ so maybe try some beta drivers it was the only fix i had to get mine to stop black screening and crashing java.
hey i had this problem.. i would load client, it would run for 1-5 min then blackscreen and give error java (tm) SE platform binary has stopped responding. i run windows 7 32 bit, i have 2 nvidia ge force sli 512 MB vid cards and 4 GB of ram and 3.3 clocked dual core processor in an old alienware. i fixed my problem by downgrading to jre 6 update 0 (6.0).. java 5 update 22 runs as well but is incompatible with modloader, version 6.0 has mod compatibility. no need to set render distance to normal.. or sacrifice any graphics quality.

this whole issue appears to be due to a corrupt java installation. ugh Java is so freakin' touchy
"The longest fix that worked for a few people is to uninstall all of the versions of java on your pc (through control panel/programs/uninstall a program). After removing java entirely then remove all of the minecraft files in the .minecraft folder (usually found in "C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft") and the .exe file. In order to backup the save data then first copy the saves folder to another location before deleting the .minecraft folder. Once Java and minecraft has been removed from the system, reboot and then first install the latest version of JDK and JRE (apparently both increase the chance of a fix). Once both have been installed then download minecraft from minecraft.net and then once you run the game ensure you force update it as soon as possible. "
I learned the set render distance to normal trick, but ever since I downloaded a mod, Java(TM) Platform SE binary will stop responding. I had to uninstall the mod and play in browser. But yesterday, after idiotically downloading Doku texture pack and using MCPatcher, it'll do the same thing, and I can't find out how to uninstall MCPatcher so I can use in Browser minecraft.
EDIT: I searched the right thing, put the MCPatcher files in the recycling bin, and voila(!), I can use In browser. Good luck, i will just not be using the downloaded desktop minecraft.
i have finally fixed the problem i was having, where after 5 minutes the client would blackscreen an i would get java se binary has stopped working error message. i run 32 bit win7, but oddly enough running the game out of the linux jar appears to work for me, as the game has not crashed for a few hours now. instructions for some possible solutions can be found here: http://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topics/bwod_black_window_of_death
The game will start up but after I log in it would start to load then switch to a black screen and give me the error "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working" I tried everything I could think off. re installing java, running as administrator, running as vista, XP compatability PLEASE HELP.

your lucky. mine runs for LESS THAN A SECOND before it crashes
Hey, to all that has this problem: I have found a solution!(even though it's a temporary solution)
I have been searching for problems similar to this for a while now, and have tested some "fixes". the one that actually works, is turning the Rendering Distance from Far to Normal. I have been playing for the past hour, no crashes at all. Everyone here should try it, and i know, i too want to see what things look like off in the distance without having to come near it, but would you rather see things in a distance and get shut out of a game, or turn the render distance slightly nearer?
I think you know the answer to that question.
Anyways, hopefully it works for all of you as it did me.
Cheers.
I used this solution to fix my game but after about 2 months it started crashing again. I tried EVERYTHING I could to fix it and now everytime I log into minecraft it crashes... cant even get any menu's to pop up. Don't know what's wrong but it makes me mad..

nvoglv32 is a Nvidia driver. Try updating them and see if that fixes your problem.

I have found several answers to this problem... The main solution for this problem is to update your graphics card like if you have NIVIDIA or other graphic card just go to the website and update it if its already updated then allocate more memory to minecraft. Also you this is a beta so you might have to wait for the actuall game to be released.
MY GOD! i keep firetrucking getting that everytime i click the server and log in. it stops at logging in. then it turns not responding, minecraft freezes! I did recently try making a server and make a 25565 port, deleteing that should not help here. the server i tried making was bucket. it also said java binary wasnt working (java binary as in the error here)
