Another PPC Mac Pro here...same exact problems with garbled sound, red tint, and invisible blocks. I really hope this gets fixed somehow, it makes the game highly frustrating to play, especially once the permanent torches go away.
One more red-tinge and crash. Figured id run my white flag up there with the rest of you.
I have a PC at home I just started playing on, but when i wanted to play it for a bit on my G5 at work (built for heavy, large=dimension, graphic design) -- nada. The online browser always crashes and the download made it all the way to about in-game-5pm. then i could see to the lava/bedrock core. crashes ever since. new games too.
I'd like for Notch to fix this b/c i'd love to play this on my lunch break. (and when i get a new mac at home this winter.

Well as of right now, I think its only affecting PPC macs, so If you are getting an intel mac, you should be fine. If we could have an intel mac person confirm that its working, that would be great.
Well, consider it confirmed, because I keep using my dad's intel snow leopard machine because it doesn't have the red tinge, unlike my computer. It is interesting to note, though, that before I downloaded the .jar(can't get .app to work on either machine...) on my dads intel, I tried running it off my ppc through the network, and that produced the red tinge...
Speaking of the .app, anybody on either intel or ppc get the .app to work? When I try to run it, it does nothing. Literally nothing. Not even a bouncy icon.
You mean the stand alone launcher? Yeah it works fine on my PPC (besides the red tint/transparency). btw K_Wall, im assuming there's no transparency at night on the intel?
I wasn't aware I was donating at all.
Especially as it quite clearly says on the main page "BUY NOW", "461774 Purchases" and in the terms and conditions, "What you get for purchasing." and "If you've bought the game...".
It's no big deal, it's not a huge amount of money, but it would've been nice to have had a note for the PPC users on the page saying there are known issues. I realise it says it's a work in progress but a little more warning, especially as the 'classic' version seems to work fine would have been appreciated.
Granted not all the issues (if any) are the devs fault, with Apples insistence on writing their own Java releases, as it is I plan on getting a intel Mac in the next few months so will let the registration/purchase carry over and hopefully everything will be OK.
On the Intel snow leopard, there is no transparency at night, no graphical glitch s, etc. And I mean I can't get the standalone launcher to work. Period. When i double-click the minecraft.app on my PPC, nothing happens. No bouncy icon, no signs of activity. I found two ways around it. You can either get the minecraft.jar instead, or you can go into the package contents for the minecraft.app file, go into the content>resources, and use the .jar from there. But, for me, the .app does not work on it's own.
Another PPC Mac user checking in; I find that the whole red-tinge/sound glitch/night transparency thing makes the game unplayable. It would have been nice to know about these issues before I actually bought it.
Oh, well…what are the odds Notch will fix it? (Or are we all supposed to have Intel Macs by now?)
I just wanted to let you know that I'm yet another PPC user with this problem. Both my fiancee and I bought our macs in late 2005 before the Intel ones came out and it's pointless for me to replace either of our perfectly good machines just to play this game. I run a Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 with ATI Radeon 9650 Video Card and 2 GB of Ram. The machine should handle the game fine, but the OS is obviously giving it problems.
It's SOO sad, because I really want to get into this game. But in it's current state with the terrible audio, bad framerate, and transparency in the dark it's impossible to play. Why bother? I hope this problem is fixed b/c I don't want to have to get a refund. I'd much rather play the game on my machine.
I bought the game b/c the specs said Macs running OSX should run the game. A warning about PPC macs would have been nice. And I specifically searched for PPC problems before buying, and couldn't find any on the site. A warning would be nice.
I've already accepted that the halloween update won't fix anything, but i might still cry some too ;~;
Also, I second the idea that someone posts this to his blog (I've tried and it keeps giving me some error thing) :<
I just wanted to post nkuvu's video capture, because this is Exactly what it plays like for me as well. The audio is awful. Combined with the RED Tinge and transparency in the dark, it makes the game unplayable.
One more for the PPC list. Now, not to inspire any hope, but I went digging around the natives to see if I could catch of glimpse of any PPC support. I did, in a way, find one line of code that seems to reference a file that isn't currently available (certainly isn't in the natives folder or on my computer), and that files name is liblwjgl-ppc.jnilib. This code can be found at line 3 or 4, INSIDE the current liblwjgl.jnilib that we use (this file/engine, from what I understand, is the culprit of our graphical issues).
Now, I'm not saying that Notch is hard at work on this, as I don't know if this even means work is being done to fix the problem. However, this does seem to offer a sliver of hope that something is being done to resolve the issue, even though we've heard nothing official about it, and it isn't even mentioned on Notch's To-Do list.
*edited for grammar lol
PPC G5 tower here. Same red Glitches. It wouldn't even be so bad except for the total lack of good sound. I have to shut all the sound off and then I can't hear any Monsters sneak up on me. But I recently stopped Playing World of Warcraft because they are not support PPC's anymore either : ( Seems everyone is giving up on the PPC *shakes fist in impotent rage*
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the purple grass and trees that I have been experiencing since the Halloween update.
So far it looks like everyone with PPC Macs are still having problems with the red tint and invisible blocks. The static problem could be something as simple as an incompatible audio codec, but Notch has confirmed that he's trying to find a different sound engine in the future.
Could everyone please post your video cards that these red tint and lighting glitches are being experienced on?
There's nothing that seems to specifically be causing the purple graphics other than the most recent update. I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE stock video card on a PowerMac G5.

Ah true, a warning would have been nice..
but I get the red tinge on my PPC G5
