Okay, so another problem has come up. I was exploring (and having to restart the game every minute or so, but I hadn't had the chance to walk around my level so I put up with it) and I started towards this big black area. It was just a massive void in the side of the cliff, no texture, just black, and when I got close the game flashed some sort of message then went black (but didn't freeze like before, I just couldn't see or do anything, but the game still seemed to be active). When trying to reboot, the game gets this far before flashing that half a second message and going black.
Another update. Got past the weirdness I stated above, but other weird things are happening (my skin reset to default, I can't move and of course Java(TM) SE Binary is still acting up).
It feels like I have the most messed up game ever.

Thanks but no thanks. I want to be able to run this game from a client, and if this problem fades away then it will never be solved.
i figured out my problem if you put render distance to normal it'll work just fine and i dont get the Java(TM) platform SE Binary is not responding error
Yea, it would be nice but too bad.
I've had a related Java Error, and after making a thread and waiting patently for four day's, ontop of asking as politely as I can for help on the IRC. No Help.
I would appreciate feedback and advice on the problems brought up in the topic, not discouragement for seeking help. If you don't want to contribute then kindly complain about the community elsewhere.

You think I haven't been trying to fix this? ever since I bought the game I've been trying to fix this EXE problem downloading java things,re-installing,using task manager to set java to use only certain CPU's. and anytime I've made or topic or someone else like you does no one helps gets VERY discouraging after a while and I'm sure someones gonna complain soon enough and a mod is gonna lock this.

I gave this a shot and so far it's working. I'm happy it does! Thanks for posting this.
Hopefully we'll be able to play the client with the "far" option on the landscape sometime, but for now this will let me get back to building. Thanks again!
I've been unable to play for more than five minutes before the screen goes black and the game locks up. When I force quit the game, it tells me "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary is not responding".
I had the same problem on this platform:
Windows 7 64 bit
ATI Radeon HD 5750
Intel i7 930
6 GB RAM
Java Version 6, update 21
My solution was to install an older version of Catalyst (graphics driver). The problem manifested on Catalyst 10.7 and Catalyst 10.6. After installing Catalyst 10.5 everything seems to work fine.
This solution will not apply to your NVIDIA-card, but maybe you could try to install older drivers as well.
Hmn, I could give that a try but I'd rather not revert to old drivers. The game plays flawlessly until I change the settings of the view to Far. Is that a driver issue, or a memory issue?
Then again, changing the graphics to Fast didn't solve the problem, only the view of the terrain seemed to affect it.
*half asleep n not reading properly* but...... that piccy half was down looks like when the 'blocks' r loading...... its the image i get when i start the game or come up from a really really long tunnel, funny eh?
That was an unrelated problem. It hasn't happened since that point. The problem now is still the first one that was addressed.
I know that Java updates frequently and there are SEVERAL entries in the Control Panel (where you uninstall programs). What I would suggest you is to uninstall ALL java entries. Start with the updates then, if the others are still there, remove the others. Reboot and make sure nothing is left in the control panel. At that point try to start Minecraft. If should fail warning about Java being absent or whatever the error message is.
At that point download the latest Standard Edition and try it.
As I said, maybe you tested that, hopefully not and it'll work. :smile.gif:

You mean in the Add/Remove programs?
I definitely uninstalled everything that even mentioned the word Java in it at one point, before reinstalling. Thank you for the tip though =p I appreciate the help.
Also I went to the Java site and tried downloading the Standard Edition and it wouldn't let me. I'll see what I can do soon but I'm fairly positive I've tried this method as well.
I'm having the same problem. I haven't tried to re-install Java yet, but it sounds like this hasn't worked for Angilis, so I don't think it would for me either. I don't have internet access for my PC at the moment, or I would try that too.
Dropping the view distance from FAR to NORMAL has prevented the crash from happening - except in the rare instance where I toggle between them to search for a faraway object, then sometimes it crashes when or after I do that. My computer can run the game fine otherwise - I suspect it is something in the code that isn't playing well with the way something is set on my machine. First chance I get, if no one has resolved this, I'll try the Java reinstall.
What's going on this time?

Enjoy the browser.

Just play Browser.
I simply wish to keep this topic about solving the problem, and not about complaints regarding the community.

This is the offline installer (~15 MB) http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/ ... leId=41723
This is the online installer (~10 MB) http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/ ... leId=41732
The offline has all the files it needs while the online will download most of what it needs from the web.
Once you're reinstalled Java, verify that it installed properly. You can do so by visiting http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
