I'm on a Mac G5 Dual 2 GHz PPC with 5GB RAM running OSX 10.5.7. I'm using one of the new slim Apple keyboards with the numeric keypad (so not the short one). My Software Update says that everything is up to date, however Java preferences don't show "Java SE 6" anywhere on the list. Instead I have "J2SE 5.0 32-bit" followed by "J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit" That said, the program loads and I can use the mouse to look around. I just can't move or use any of the other keyboard commands, and escape won't release the mouse. I have to force quit the program. This is for both Safari and Firefox.
I'm thinking it's the keyboard because if I load the game on my older iMac with the old, clear plastic walled keyboard, everything works. It just runs horribly slow.
Apple Keyboard:
Product ID: 0x0220
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
Version: 0.69
Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple, Inc
Location ID: 0x4b420000
Current Available (mA): 100
Current Required (mA): 20
I'm going to swap out the keyboard and try it on this computer to see if it'll work, but I'm not very keen on having to switch keyboards when I want to play, so I'm hoping it's something that can be fixed. If so, you have my word that I'll buy it.

And that didn't fix it. So even though it seems like a keyboard problem, it's not. Something else is wrong. Rats.
Sounds to me that the keys being passed to the application aren't matching. Did you need to install drivers for this keyboard? I wouldn't be surprised if the game uses predefined numbers for the keys, like "a = 1, b = 2" sort of thing and your mac keyboard passes unknown values and your mac drivers manipulate those numbers for your actual computer, but the java application can't "recognise" them. Does this happen on any other games/programs?
Nope, no special drivers. It's the new Apple brand keyboard, and I haven't had this problem with any other games. But then, I don't play a lot of Java games. Also, when I pulled the keyboard from my iMac (where Minecraft was working... slowly) and put it on the G5, the problem persisted. No idea why now.
My son messed with it for awhile and found that sometimes the keyboard works, and sometimes it doesn't. Still don't know why, but at least it's occasionally working. Now to play around with it for a bit. Thanks for the help.
I'm using a new MacBookPro (the 13'3" 2,53 Ghz and 4 GB) ... and using the laptop keyboard.
It doesn't respond to the keyboard, so i cannot even QUIT!!! ESC doesn't work!
I got to press (Command)+Q to close the full firefox (not just that tab), but it was that or either reset it all...
tangency> That's what I was having to do as well. One thing you might try that has been working for me is make sure the level is fully loaded and then click both mouse buttons at once. No idea why it works, but it seems to.

No luck, neither with the touchpad or a separate mouse.
:sad.gif: I've already put java 6 on top in the preferences... but ... still not working)
Ok, I'm having the same trouble too. I've been able to play the game fine for a week now. Using sign language with my head (quite an achievement), I was able to learn from the server owner that the server console said I had disconnected. Really weird. I've also got a Mac - a 15 inch, Macbook Pro (early 2008). Here are the specifications: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP4
I would love to know a solution, because I love the game! Keep up the good work notch!
(updates) I tried clearing the cache, restarting the computer, using safari instead of firefox - all to no avail.
(more updates) I just tried single player mode, and its the same story there.
Oh and by the way - if it helps my Java is up to date - so that shouldn't be the problem.

I had the same problem but the newest update to /indev/ fixed the issue for me. The TAB key is still not working, but everything else is. So don't worry, it's a bug in Minecraft, nothing related to your keyboards.

Another thing to try would be to completely remove Java and reinstalling it.
