just to make sure, this is pretty useless for a computer that runs minecraft 70-90 fps on fancy/far limited framerate. right?
Correct.
Most LCD monitors display at 60Hz, ie: 60 cycles per second, or 120Hz for 3D ones. So anything past 60 is wasted. On the other hand, if you're getting 70-90 FPS on average, you might be dipping down much lower at specific times of rendering. So keep track of your lowest FPS reported, not your average.
there is only one thing my laptop needs for an immense framerate boost. - disabling fog completely. the software emulation of the fog is dragging my system down so badly that running with FAR distance performs *better* then tiny, and my openGL utility doesnt let me disable fog. i'm aware it'll look like crap if i have tiny distance and no fog. - but i am a firm believer of function over form.
Any ideas on how to remove the fog entirely?

actually, 70 is my lowest FPS, while 109 is my gross(highest) FPS. however, it drops to thirty when using camtasia recorder.
As well, I'm debating on PMing an admin or a sectional moderator and requesting a thread-wipe once I'm done the update, just to get rid of all the negativity that's happened on the first few pages
Sounds good, I support that. I hate it when haters come in here and start blaming Minecraft for everything.
To remove start-up items, there are a few places to look...
[*:2nzs4266]Registry: Use RegEdit (run regedit.exe) and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and then HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to remove unwanted items.
[*:2nzs4266]Startup Folder: From the Start Menu folder (either manually or from the start menu itself).
[*:2nzs4266]Browser Helper Objects: best to run HijackThis to find, identify, and remove them (a lot easier than in the registry).
Or you can click the windows logo on your taskbar (if you're running Vista/7) and type in "system". Click "System Configuration". (Can also be found on the Control Panel: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools)
Click the Startup tab, and uncheck any programs that you dont want to run when you start up your computer.
Or you can click Run on your Start Menu and type "msconfig" then hit enter and uncheck startup items there. There are many ways to do the same thing in Windows. ;-)
Im so proud... -.-

Good luck on updating the guide. :-)
