Ok so I bought minecraft realms because i wanted to make a server.
but now I want to make a real server, it goes fine until I go to the portforwarding
part. When I try to port forward it says I am already using port 25565 for minecraft realms.I can't shut down realms because all my friends will get mad.
Go through a server host like me. You won't have these issues as long as you choose a professional host, and you'll actually end up saving money as well! Our packages start at $6/GB, but are 20% off if you use the code fall at checkout.
Okay, while there are free hosts out there, you'll quickly find they all have a catch to them. Good luck with the search though. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
I'll help you out. Just go into your server.properties file, and change the port from 25565, to something like 25566. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask, and I'll do my best to help ya out.
Are you giving your friends your external ip? While you use 127.0.0.1 or localhost to connect to your server on YOUR network, other people have to use your external ip if they are not in your network. Go here and copy the ip they give you and give it to your friends: https://www.whatismyip.com/

97% of teenagers would cry if they saw Justin Bieber on top of a tower
about to jump. If you're the 3% who is sitting there with popcorn
screaming "DO A BACKFLIP", copy and paste this as your signature.
If you install teamviewer, I can take a look at your router

My friend said it won't work because I have a Verizon router
What won't work? Using an external IP? If so, your friend is an idiot. There is no other way for it to work. You can't be giving people outside of your network your internal, non-routable IP to use. Doesn't matter anyway, the router is not an issue here. If you cannot bind to 25565 because something is using it, that's an issue with your local machine.
I've never had a Realms server, but I was under the impression that Mojang hosts them. If that's an accurate assumption, then having a Realms server should not cause anything to bind on your own machine. If you reboot the PC then go to start the server, do you still get the cannot bind error? You usually only get that if you already have the local server running. Is your local server using Multcraft or McMyAdmin or some other type of server management tool?
Wait, did you say bukkit, you should be using spigot, do you have skype?

http://www.prohost.gs/ lets you keep your server on 24/7 if there is at least one player on
https://triangle.gs/ is truly 24/7 as long as you renew your server every 36 hours, but their control panel bugs are bad

Have you tried using a different port for your non-Realms server?
I'll help you out. Just go into your server.properties file, and change the port from 25565, to something like 25566. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask, and I'll do my best to help ya out.
