In my honest opinion, I think that the updates are coming out really slow. Over the course of a year, there have only been 3 updates for this javascript game. And now people are predicting that 1.5 is near, which is a shame, since the amount of content in this update, could have been made in a week by this community.

*Sigh* It's the thing with instant gratification these days. Problem is, it's not necessarily people's fault; they've been conditioned into it via the Internet and such: "If this webpage doesn't load I'm going to ragequit ARRGG!"
Being patient is a good quality to have, in life and for new Minecraft updates.
I wouldn't say they are lazy adding content, but they have definitely rushed 1.7; So many things are broken, even if only a little. To move on to a pre-release and then the update in the space of a week when the snapshots were becoming less stable week by week just boggles my mind. Poor show Mojang; for a game that is still not finished 2 years after release, we should be able to expect more, shouldn't we?
I think the problem is not mojang, but the community's stupid and unrealistic expectations. They don't even have to give us free updates, they actually have the infrastructure to sell DLC (a company making money off their own creation! Those greedy )$(4/&:)!). They decided to not use that idea, because they felt indebted to a fanbase that literally pulled this game from underground into space. I should know, as I was there fairly early.
But look at the community today. Ungrateful, unfair, and completely greedy. The irony, is that trying to claim that Mojang is greedy, is pointing out their own greed. It may be content greed, but it's still greed.

Star Trek DS9 and Doctor Who FTW.
Wow, I've never seen someone get bashed so much for an honest opinion.
OT: I agree with OP, if this community got to programming minecraft we would have updates every week. And 1.7.2 was a good update, but I didn't care for or notice any of the ones before.
Once you think about it, Mojang has A LOT to do on their hands. They have 3 games to work on (maybe more), they have merchendise, Minecon... and adding new content to the game may not be as easy or as fast as you may think.. I have modding experience, and I get what their dealing with. Be thankful they update it at all.

Yeh I guess it makes sense, the more programmers the faster the code writing.
But lets look at it this way. Sure there is a monumental amount of time spent on coding and I would bet most of it isn't writing raw material. Alot of it would be tweaking and making sure that there is balance. Let the community have it and then minecraft would have such in balance.
To be fair though this bring the thought to mind. why note somehow allow established members of the community to help smash the bugs. Because I would also guess that bug smashing takes up a whole lot of time but it can also be done by many different people. Unlike adding and tweaking new and existing features.
Mojang is EXTREMELY lazy. I remember back in o-12 when they announced the redstone update. I was pretty excited, little did I know it would take them an eternity to get it out. Take the "horse update" for example. They got Dr Zhark to do the update FOR them. The horses are ripped straight from his mod. And how long did it take for them to release it? A lot longer than it should take to copy+paste. Then came the "Update that changed absolute squat". It messed up the world generation beyond repair, and added it so many useless items that I don't know where to start, so I'll finish with the point that mojang is VERY VERY lazy and their updates are horrifyingly bad.
Good god, people will complain about anything. Mojang isn't your slave, do you need an umbrella and want a massage too? They already update for free, now people complain they aren't getting their free content fast enough. I swear people are getting more and more greedy than ever before. *facedesk*
I might be 14 but I have worked with coding. I can understand coding, I've taken many classes on coding, I have looked some of Minecraft's code and I know how to code. No offense but I doesn't sound like you really understand coding at all if you demand it to be done in a timely fashion. Coding is like another language you have to understand, you have to have good problem solving skills and have plenty of experience. People whine updates aren't fast enough yet wonder why there are so many bugs. Rushing leads to disaster, I rather get the update with less bugs and more fleshed out rather than as fast as humanly possible.
Mojang is EXTREMELY lazy. I remember back in o-12 when they announced the redstone update. I was pretty excited, little did I know it would take them an eternity to get it out. So you judge how good an update is by how fast they get it out? Quality over quanity.
Take the "horse update" for example. They got Dr Zhark to do the update FOR them. The horses are ripped straight from his mod. And how long did it take for them to release it? A lot longer than it should take to copy+paste. I fail to see the problem here. We wanted horses, Mojang gave us horses. Mojang payed and gave DrZhark credit for his work. Why is Mojang not making everything from scratch label them as lazy? If you got your name in Minecraft creditsfor your mod and got payed for it too; would you get angry and say "Hey, that's my work!" Mojang didn't bribe DrZhark to do it for them. Asking another for permission to use their code is efficient and nothing more.
Then came the "Update that changed absolute squat". If many new biomes, a lot of new plants and flowers, temperature system, new kinds of wood, long requested colored glass, revamped fishing mechanics, naturally spawning witches, Twitch support, new music, chicken jockeys, new resource pack features, bug fixes, render distance slider, scoreboards, new food and new potion sounds like "absolute squat" to you; you are just beyond hard to please.
It messed up the world generation beyond repair Opinion, not fact.
added it so many useless items that I don't know where to start Just because an item is useless to you, doesn't mean it's useless to every Minecraft player. Again, your opinion. It's not their job to cater to you personally.I don't know what useless items you are referencing, everything has purpose.
so I'll finish with the point that mojang is VERY VERY lazy and their updates are horrifyingly bad. So your reasons supporting this are: The updates aren't rushed and coming out as fast as a desire, Mojang dared to do the practical thing and ask permission for DrZhark's code and Mojang added features you didn't have a use for or didn't like.Do you know about coding? You can't make 1.7 in a month. You disliking the features in 1.7 doesn't Mojang lazy. Coding is a lot of work, three updates a year is generous.

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
Kids here won't understand this. It's incredible how much work it must have been to code the last two updates.
Coding 1.7 was probably quite a bit of work, coding 1.6 with the redstone additions was quite a bit of work, coding 1.8 was probably so easy that I could have done it myself in 5 days.
