So far, a lot of the 1.8 stuff revolves around villagers, but new stone and an enchanting overhaul were added too. Do you guys think it will be a Villager Update, or are we taking a break from the "themed" Redstone/Horse/Worldgen updates and getting a generic update that adds a bunch of different stuff?
Edit: Personally, I'd like it to be a generic random stuff update.
Edit again: Maybe an Adventure Update, part 2? I'm pretty sure Beta 1.8 was the Adventure Update.
I'd consider it a villager update if they add new structures to villages or even a new form of village. That'd be cool, but until then, no; it's just a compilation of random things at this point.
Snapshots have been out for over a year now, do you not know how they work?
All major content added in 1st (RARELY 2nd) update. 3rd will generally feature very minor things (command block features), and all the rest are bug fixes.
What you see for 1.8 so far is all there will be.
I can't recall any a-snapshots that are solely bugfixes. There's always at least a small change or addition in snapshots. Heck, 1.7's final snapshot added Chicken Jockeys.
Oh, 13w48a is only bugfixes.
But 13w48b adds rainbow sheep.

While they said it has two themes, it actually has three:
Ok, I would say changing the enchant system and adding new stones is fairly major, but as said the update is pretty random so it doesn't hold very much intrigue because of it.
...Yes. So? They are additions. They are features that do not exist prior to them being added. You could also call them changes. Regardless, they're still new/changed pieces of code that aren't bug fixes.
We have two themes. Survival and Map-Making tools.
The former of which will probably be cast aside or have hardly any additions if it keeps up the way it is, even though there are more survival players than users of the Map-Making tools.
Three new stones to mine, a recipe for mossy (cobble)stones and chiseled stone, a slime block for preventing fall damage and for bouncing, enchanting changed, villagers changed qua professions and trades, villagers now farming wheat and tossing bread, villagers changing into witches when strucked by lightning, buttons placeable on floor and roof, golems and withers spawnable with dispensers, item frams giving redstone signals by rotating the item in it in now eight different directions...
A pretty amount of changes for (also) the survival mode, I would say.
While this all may not seem like much to some people, the upcoming changes to mob AI (for the ones not using 1.2 AI) on top of all this will certainly add plenty of variety and new challenges for both survival players and map-makers alike.

Timeless Modding is kinda dead but idk what to put here now

PixelQuest 2, my new 1.10 RPG/rougelike-inspired modpack, is coming soon!
I've been waiting to play updated mods for so long and 1.8 has so few features that I'm going to wait until 1.9.

I didn't notice much for the survival mode >.>
