i feel both ways he has done alot but i do miss notch and the things he added. i would say stop adding things in such a bunch to many items, blocks, ect. in one update take it more slowly make sure theres no bugs ect. I overall i feel that he is kindof hurting minecraft :(oh and stop making map tools!
To be honest I don't really like the way minecraft has changed lately. I don't dislike the direction, because there is no direction. It's just random features here and there. Mojang is continually adding more and more features to the game while completely forgetting all the stuff they previously made.
Pig riding for example is buggy, expensive and not even effective(the usability is reduced even more with the new horses). The enderdragon is a tedious to kill boss which can only attack by storming his head into your face and lives in an as good as empty(besides the endermen) realm consisting out of only 1 new block. The wither isn't even really a boss but more of a stronger mob that you 'summon' the same way you create a golem. And don't get me even started over the terrain, the lightning and the overal lag(ALOT of people have trouble with this, me included).
In my opinion they should stop adding new features and just focus on what we already have. Horses are cool I guess(although they are almost directly copied from Mo' Creatures) but why do we need them exactly? To explore the extremely boring and repetitive terrain? Why are they more important than a soundtrack(which is pretty much non-existent) or villager AI(they can't even be classified as npcs)? Not everyone wanted horses. Why would they spend their time on forcing this feature on everybody while instead they could work on the API they promised months ago?
If you ask me we aren't really heading in any direction at all. There hasn't been many features lately that work towards a greater goal. The game might be officially released but it seems so unfinished. The stuff mojang did was done well(mostly) but seems unrelating and unnecessary even. Some people will like the new features(I like alot of them myself too) but are (copied)horses and (broken)beacons really gonna make the game better?
So basically, you're saying there's no consistent direction...?
I feel like hes doing alright, I found the beacons, and fireworks pointless but i feel like enchanting, potions, and anvils do add a good amount to the game. I do hope they'd do a more PvP focused update, such as adding shields, or more weapon types and variety. Even smaller features like being able to hold a torch and light up the area around you would, or actually seeing fish in the water would be nice features to add, but overall I like the directions hes going.
So instead of someone who actually works features out and finishes them completely, you want the dev that sporadically jumps from idea to idea and doesn't even do half the work on any of them?
They never finished their Superflat customization features. And controllable pig riding was really glitchy when they released that.
I started unofficially playing minecraft with other computers in 1.0.0(and I rarely played till about 1.8.1) so i dont really know what notch did.can someone tell me.
I would say they are taking the middle path, not wrong or right, there are pros and cons to each update.
As far as 1.6 is concerned, I am excited about it in fact, but I can't say I'm happy about everything that comes along with it. As far as items/blocks and mobs go, you can't complain about them really. Especially ones that don't have much effect on game play. However, I do understand the desire to have actual goals to complete in Minecraft, other than fighting bosses and going to different dimensions of the Minecraft World. It seems as though there needs to be more along with the goals, but Minecraft is not based on such things as quests and achievements really, but an open world of either creating and/or surviving as well as adventuring.
It seems as though there needs to be more along with the goals...
It would be cool if they...
1.) Implemented bosses or the overworld.
2.) Those bosses raised different magnitudes of underlings (i.e. - at first, the boss might sack a town, then that town becomes a ruin whereby it establishes that location as a base of operations to begin an initial campaign of raising a militia of monsters to begin conquering nearby towns, etc. The bigger the boss's association gets, the larger the army, hence a real goal for the gamers to have: defeat the vile tyrant to save the nation, etc.) The larger the army, the more difficult the boss, the bigger the bosses' castles, the more vast their domain...
3.) The villager AI really needs work for Minecraft to develop further. In my opinion, I think this is imperative.
4.) They need to find a way to make the game world autonomously open for other people so that the level of accessibility between peoples' worlds is more streamlined within the game without needing to manually connect to other peoples' worlds through entering IP addresses, etc. This would bring the world to life. There's lots to consider with something like this, I know, but if you want the game to feel "alive", this would really be the only true way to make it happen because THEN, you'd have real people to trade / build with, new buildings to discover, actual mines to explore that actually had people truly mining them, etc. Right now, the game is too isolated.
But yes, the game could use more macro goals comprised of AI and human-enriched interactivity through increased accessibility options.
Well I played in Alpha and the game is better now then it was back then. I don't see what jeb and dinnerbone are doing wrong. Nothing so far has been bad. Just deal with what they are doing. I'm sorry you are not getting your way guys. It must fell terrible... its not like that should happen or anything...
I generally don't have any problem with the things being added to the game by the current development team. My problem is how they are being added. It just feels haphazard, things aren't being implemented in the best way they are just sorta being implemented in a way that halfheartedly "works".
Saddles for instance, should have a crafting recipe and the initial recipe was fundamentally sound. The concern from a subset of the community seems to be that saddles will be too easy to make. Resulting in people being able to craft a saddle within their first MC day. The solution to me would seem like it would call for a complete overhaul of the crafting system, instead the saddle recipe was simply removed from the game and saddles were slapped into the loot tables for chests and villagers....... that sorta duct-tape solution is what is starting to concern me.
Admittedly 1.6 isn't complete and a more effective solution to the whole crafting thing could be in the works.
YES, actually if jeb was doing it wrong jeb would put crazy things in minecraft and also jeb is not the only one to code and decode the minecraft they're a company and jeb is only the one who's the lead developer and no need to panic or no need to shout for help because you don't know if jeb is dong the right thing, and also jeb has the rights to change the gameplay of minecraft and make it more better. so let's expect for more enhance in the game.
EDIT: The problem is, 90% the people answering "Yes" to this question weren't playing Minecraft before the Beta 1.8 adventure update. I was. And trust me, I found Minecraft a lot more enjoyable then.
fun fact: just because you're blinded by nostalgia doesn't mean your argument is inherently correct
fun fact 2: I started playing before the Adventure Update
Whoopiedoo, another person that played before the adventure update. Doesn't make you right, or make me right. Its all about opinion. I am stating my opinion: I think Minecraft was better before 1.8. No need to get so mad.
I think that the PVP and destruction elements are deteriorating the Minecraft community into something that resembles other games - a want to kill everything in the game, dominate everything, and destroy as much as possible. I don't think that Minecraft should be like that.
Next time try not to get so mad and then try to back up the madness with inherently stupid statements that are in no way relevant.

Yep, people do get pretty strung-up about all this stuff. Comes with the territory I guess. Just have to ignore it because appx. 80% of all people who do reply with things like aggressive assaults and other silliness lack the means to leverage online etiquette.

Well when your 'opinion' includes stereotyping people who are against it, and calling back the worst developer to work on Minecraft thus far, then yeah, people are going to facepalm at it and wish to contradict it.

1.8 terrain? Notch. Magic and enchantments? Also Notch. The End? You better believe that was Notch.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
