With snapshot 13w36b, we have 3 new types of trees: Acacia, roofed forest, and redwood trees
I was wondering if anyone else thinks that we could expect sapling/log/plank variations for at least a few of the new trees. Currently, if you choose to live in the new savanna biome and chop down the nearby acacia trees, there's no way to replant them in a way that looks natural. Instead, you get a bunch of out-of-place oak trees. The same goes for any of the new trees. Personally, I think Mojang should at least add new saplings for the new trees, but I'd also really like if they add new logs and planks for each tree.
I for one would really like to see the Acacia logs/planks/saplings look like they do in the ExtraBiomesXL mod.
Probably will. Makes no sense to get jungle wood from an acacia tree after all. I'm guessing/hoping they're just placeholders until they make some new textures.
The main features of the first snapshot are terrain generation and new biomes. We should expect such content as new trees and/or mobs in the next snapshots.
I agree with this 100%. If they don't add the new woods then I hope they at least let us plant the spruce saplings in a 2x2 to grow a redwood tree and the oak saplings in a 2x2 to grow a... whatever type of tree the roofed forest is supposed to be.

To those of you suggesting new uses for Emeralds in the suggestions forum: Emeralds have enough uses. You can trade with villagers to get diamond armor/tools/weapons and enchants. Stop suggesting that Emeralds are useless, and learn to play Minecraft. Thanks.
While they may be limited, there are certainly enough for new Saplings, wood blocks, & leaves (please Mojang?). In fact, there are over 1000 ids available in the game, I think it might be 1026. Either way, there are certainly enough to go around.
I'm sure the acacia will get its own wood and sapling, so will the redwood (and I'm guessing it will be jungle sapling-shaped, instead of oak sapling-shaped, so the jungle tree isn't the only sapling with that weird tall shape), but as for the roofed tree, it might just be 4 oak saplings.
Even without changes to the block ID system, there's room for 4 more leaf types. There are 4 bits with 16 possible metadata values per block but 1 bit is used to flag "placed by player", leaving 3 bit with 8 value. 4 are in use now, leaving 4 free. So they could put in Acacia, the swamp tree (probably willow), the roofed forest tree (baobab?) and even the jungle shrub with virtually no work.
It does concern me, though, that the swamp willow (or whatever) still doesn't have a sapling even after nearly two years.

Look at my post in the suggestions forum, called "better trees and tree generation". I mention a few of the things you talk about, here.
