Mojang said they were working on ''resource packs'' (on the update of 13w21a) which I assume is texture packs, sounds and language packs fused together in a format. This probably would make it easier to have custom maps that require such things.
Fonts were part of texture packs, but the sound thing sounds cool. Finally, I would be able to replace all of those bad sounds (cow sounds, chicken walking, new sand) with good ones.
Sounds awesome. I better learn how to code before the API comes, I have some ideas for a cool mod.
It's what I did a year ago, I was kinda disappointed that the API hasn't been out for that year, so I moved onto other stuff. It's not a bad thing to learn, either.
Um, one bad thing about this: The Painterly Pack might die. I really hope Rhodox finds a way to make the new system work for the customizer. Painterly Pack is by far one of the best packs out there.

Yes, Resource Packs will allow for changing of textures, sounds, languages, fonts and more all in one. Also, you will be able to use more than one at once.

Where did you see that you can use more than one pack at a time? As far as I know, that is incorrect.
Great idea. Maybe who knows if they want to add a Flan's mod like thing in a custom map with sounds, too! And you can have custom ambiences with that, too!
And also, KingzofDawn, that doesn't contribute to the topic. You were referencing to TNT right?

...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
Praise be to Spode.
I'm lovin' this update.

That would be correct, my friend.

Quote from the gist linked above:
Dunno how he plans on handling conflicts if two packs modify the same things. I don't see any mention of that.
Ah, okay, thanks for clearing it up. And I'm assuming the JSON file will contain some sort of priority information.
