Even if saddles are uncraftable it isn't a barrier to the 'horsepocalypse' people are screaming about as if the sky literally just landed on their noggins.
Unless jeb removes pig saddles from butchers, you will still have an easy to get, trivial to farm endless supply of saddles. Even if he does, lets face it, on a new world, how hard is it really to get a saddle from a dungeon? A half hours work, possibly more if you are VERY unlucky.
As for horses lackluster spawn rate, it only matters until you find two. then you get usual breeding geometric growth.
What about having the armor being the dungeon loot so you can craft your saddle and stuff but if you want an OP horse you need to get looking on dungeons and stuff
I think the armor should be craftable, but not the saddle. I really couldn't care less, though. I'll probably never use them.
I really don't see them as being the end-all transportation that most people do, so I probably won't be using them much either. Sorry, but if you're actually going to a known destination, then nothing really beats Nether portals or minecart teleporting (or both combined if you really want to get around fast).
Ugh all this does is relegate horses to "luck of the draw" ..... and so it was that the same reason I never bothered with pigs became the reason I likely won't bother with horses.
They should have just left all the horse items as craftable and kept pig saddles as dungeon only for those who really need to lord some abscure random chest loot over other people.
You're completely right, and the worst part of it is that all these severe limitations seem to have been added for the sole benefit of people who have been opposing horses every step of the way. Guys, just because something is new and different doesn't mean that it's bad, nor should your narrow interests take priority over those of the many, many people who want to use horses frequently.
These changes Jeb has announced, along with the crippling 1% chance of spawning for horses cripples the usefulness of the new usefulness of the new mount.
Finally someone understand me that 1% is really low number!

The reason that saddles aren't craftable (according to jebs twitter) is so that horses are more of a late- game piece of "equipment" (so to speak). This probably means that the spawn rate will be changed ;).
I like this, as it's easier than having a low spawn rate, and basically being able to sprint all the time should probably be a late- game advantage.

Well, this opens a new tear in the rift, we'll find out tomorrow though, shall't we?

If you assume that horse spawn is increased and saddles are the bottleneck, it is still only the work of a half hour to get yourself a saddle or ten. So yeah, you can't 'walk off the spawn point and grab a horse', but you can come fairly close if you know what you are doing. The concept of it as an 'endgame item' is fairly silly when you can grab one with about twenty minutes work.
Especially when you can slap together a leash which is arguably a far FAR more useful item than being able to move slightly faster than usual.
Not that I expect much more than lazy, hamfisted work when they attempt to cram uneeded 'balance' to the game.
Horses were supposed to improve the open lifestyle of nomads, but if you need to search for dungeons underground, that takes away quite a bit of functionality. Nomads deserve some more love.

It's hard criticizing ideas when one is tired, so you'd better appreciate it when I criticize yours.
I love that you suggested what should be changed, and said why you didn't like the new Mojang change while keeping your respect for the company itself. I hate it when I see people say things like "what the heck Mojang sucks!" over a little change. Thanks for realizing that they brought us this great game. I agree with much of what you said. Either make the horse spawn rate more common or make horse gear craftable.
The funny thing is: Making a full equipped horse rarer will only make it more OP, compared to those who didn't had the luck to find one + armor. Just wait for the same guys to come and whine again next week.
True. For instance if you join a server a month or so after it starts, players will have all this gear and have looted dungeon chests.
Instead of going on about the negative effects of non-craftable saddles, why don't you instead go on about how having craftable saddles will have a positive effect? You are bond to get more support that way.

Its just a silly change really.

I think youre the smartest man in this entire forum wide saddle argument.

No, you're not! I wish others (Besides the 3 others that have noticed this...) would see THAT!
