While I agree the OP is a bit aggressive in his responses, I back his suggestion fully. It does make the items harder to focus on for me, and besides that, it kinda takes away the whole 16-bit feel of it. When you are working with small, pixelated items, the border is very necessary.
As for the posts regarding the use of texture packs, why would you say that? The OP, and others including me, do not want to use them. We like the vanilla texture for the game, with the exception of these borderless items. They just don't fit.
Also, I would like to point out that the specific people who are getting aggressive now are fighting over pixels in a game. It's amazing what things humans can use to start fights.

Give me an objective reasoning why the players who don't like the way the developers change their own game cannot utilize the compromise option to keep the game the way they want?
Why stifle change and progress? Minecraft is beginning to look better and better, why stop that?
Let's suppose that the creator of a game you like makes a graphical change you hate. What do you do about it? A:Accept it and move on. B:Make or find a texture pack that changes it back. C:Whine about it on the forums.

I wouldn't exactly call these texture changes "progress", but if someone were to make a texture pack that just used vanilla textures with the classic-looking items, then I would have no problems using it, since it would still look the same. But until then, I will support this thread's reasoning.

OP, I think I hate you.
Want the outlines? Edit the items.png by copying the old food item pictures and drawing dark outlines. I know you said "DON'T SUGGEST TEXTURE PACKS!!!111" but Mojang won't do **** about it just because one whiney ***** wants them to do so.
Let's clear this up for the final time from OP.
"Please be rational when commenting. Do not suggest a texture pack. This has been suggested and considered. I still feel i would rather keep the foundation of minecraft itself original rather than changing it for myself only. I do not want to have to constantly edit the terrain.png(Every update) just to keep it the same."
Whining / Calmly making a suggestion
Learn the difference
Let's clear this up for the final time from OP. etc
First of all, I think you should learn the difference between whining and suggesting. The title for this thread says that for some reason Jeb knows you, and he dislikes you. The title alone is a long winded, pouting whine. Poor baby, poor jilted ex-lover baby.
You have still failed to realize a compelling, objective argument as to why you are unwilling to accept the compromise the developers have given you. You've proved nothing to me other than that you have no real reason to utilize a texture pack to support your personal needs. Unwillingness to accept change without the burden of opinion support is the sure sign of either a child or a forum troll. And if you are as young as you come across then here is some advice: The inability to welcome changes in your life will lead to poor personal relationships as an adult.
So again, I ask, why can you not use a texture pack? Think of it like an agreement with Mojang. If you don't like what they do, which you have no say in by the way, then they provide a way to change it. Why can you not use a texture pack?

you know the jeb doesnt like me thing was a joke, right?
i wish people stopped for a second and considered reading the threads.
this is a suggestion, not a threat. JESUS CHRIST quit treating it like i'm demanding the damn change!
Get it through your head that this is a suggestion! people giving an opinion! not an anonymous ddos demanding the change!
i do not want to settle for a texture pack. look through the replies, everybody that wants the change like me agrees that a texture pack isn't enough.
again, if i use a tp i will have to update it with every update.
using a texture pack is not a comprimise.
a comprimise is coming to terms on each side.
texture pack is only for my side. they didn't create TPS jsut for me.
I, personally agree with the OP. I really hate the borderless food textures. It is so much easier to see the food when those outlines are there. A texture pack is NOT enough. I am doubtful on the bordered food coming back, however, and having outlines on the new foods.
I really hate the new, borderless, food textures in 12w37a (esp. Apple & Raw Porkchop). I do like a few of them, like the Raw and Cooked Chicken and Cooked Porkchop, but regardless, I think they look so... un-Minecrafy!
If these changes are made, I know packs like Faithful 32x and Traditional Beauty will change to the new textures, so those who dislike the new textures may have to do editing on every update the new food textures are like they are in 12w37a. If any Minecraft developer is reading this, please, PLEASE change the food textures back, and maybe even add borders to the new 1.4 foods.

You keep saying this is a petition, a petition is a demand supported by a list of like minded people. The compromise is this; the developers give you the choice to not use what they provide. That is the compromise; other games may not even give you the choice. Your end of the deal is to take advantage of the right to utilize the texture pack feature. Your repeated demands for me to read the other posts is redundant and a waste, I've read them all. I'm telling you to come up with a better argument other than "texture packs aren't enough."

No Mojangster is going to read your post, and take it into consideration. Deal with it, these changes are made and lots of people like them too. All the bordered food supporters can only make arguments for themselves and themselves only.

Good luck.
i use that argument because obviously based on more voted for change it back > keep it show people agree texture pack doesnt cut it.
-I will have to update it every update
-Only i will see it that way
-It ruins the feel of minecraft (Realism isn't needed.)
I feel like you're arguing me just because You think i'm bullying mojang about it.
I'm allowed to have an opinion, as i've preached that claim hundreds of times in this thread.
You tell me to live with it.
I tell you to live with the fact that i don't like it and will continue petitioning until i feel otherwise.
Good day.
I hope to accomplish something.
What are you doing? Trying to convince me to not petition?
Are you trying to convince me to hide my opinions and never speak out?
**** that, it's called being an individual.
I'm sorry your're one of the sheeple.
Firstly, using a texture pack is not a compromise, it is Mojang saying: "Well, you guys liked it the other way, but we like it this way, so deal with it" (which is within their rights to say, as it is their game) It is not a compromise, but rather us who liked it the old way dealing with it. However, they have already provided a way for us to deal with it (namely, the texture pack)
Secondly, using a texture pack is an option, it is not a optimal option, but it is still an option. That said, I would prefer if they would change the textures back, but if they don't, I will be using the method they gave us to deal with it. I personally don't understand why they changed the textures so that the people who liked default would have to start using texture packs to make it look like it did (It would make more sense if a texture pack was made to change them to how they are now, instead of Mojang changing the defaults) but it is still within their rights as the developers of the game to completely ignore us, fortunately (for both us and them) they listen to us to some limited degree. That also being said, I think that we should try to influence them to do things that would make the game better, however, I don't agree with the Op's methods, but I agree that they should be changed back
Thirdly, it is very presumptive to say that no one from Mojang reads these forums, how do you know that they don't? The mere fact that they seldom comment does not mean that they don't view what we are saying here, although it isn't all that likely that they read even most of what we say, we would be very dense to think that no one form Mojang could or would read what we say.
-Thank You-

I like realism... that's why I always used JohnSmith as my texturepack. So, I could care less on default textures changes, but here's my 2 cents.
Minecraft has always been known for it's cartoony/fun look, that's part of what makes it's mobs and items so iconic. It's impossible to mistake original Minecraft textures to those made by tp artists because of how iconic and solid the artwork was.
While the developers have all the rights to change the artwork to something more realistic (removing the dark outline), because it's their game, this shows to me that they are slowly and purposefully steering away from that main aspect that made Minecraft look so unique.
Looking this new sprites, you can almost think that somehow Mojang stole the sprites from texturepacks like SummerFields or Jolicraft. And of course, now the Default textures are not standardized, as the rest of the sprites have outlines, while (some of) the foods don't.
People also have the right to like these changes... but they should be aware that they are saying to Mojang: "We are ok with you guys making Minecraft lose it's Iconic and cartoonistic artwork, and look more and more like a custom texturepack... so keep changing it!"
I've said it before, and i'm going to say it again. I don't mind the textures, but there isn't any consistency among items and food.
The old textures are iconic, but it won't make a difference in a few months anyway. I just want them to either add back in the outline to food or remove the outline of other items so the textures are consistent.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
1) Theres a reason why texture packs exist... Texture packs are for people whos not satisfied with Default Minecraft textures. And what i can see your not satisfied... Which means that you should use a texture pack.
2) Actually i consider every thread that suggests something in the "Future Updates" section whining threads... If you want to suggest something you should go to "Suggestion" section
1) I have to agree with you here, but you will admit that the changing of these textures will only get more people using texture packs, which isn't a good thing for a variety of reasons (none of which make a huge difference, but still)
2) The big problem with putting stuff like this in the suggestions forum is that half the people that see your topic will have no idea what you are talking about as they aren't following to updates very closely
