I run a thread that features epic ideas that I created for the new 1.4 items,
and one of the ideas featured were the Witch's Hut.
And with the new snapshot introducing the witch's hut, I was very disappointed with it. Here's the Witch's Hut for SnapShot 12w40a implented by Jeb.
Here's What the inside looks like...
First off, the outside looks very..boring.. I mean we're talking about a WITCH here, not a FISHERMAN.
I could find this interesting for a Fisherman NPC, but for a WITCH?!?
The layout is interesting but I don't find it right how the OUTSIDE looks HUGE, but the inside is pretty small area. I understand its techinicaly a "swamp hut" but its a area where the Witch mob would spawn, and right now it doesn't make any sense. The building itself should balance the feeling of being "out-of-this-world" and the normality of a Witch. THe inside is also boring, a couldron and a crafting table doesn't make the Witch's hut pretty special.
I read your suggestions and I actually agreed with most of the comments, but I still didn't like the current design, so I started from scratch and I ended up making a design that seem appropriate and no NTHER materials required, I think this design looks right and hopefully the release of 1.4 THEIR design would look better than mine. For this design I didn't want to change the current design too much, but added features to make the Witch's Hut interesting and good-looking for most players,
NEW DESIGN:
Now for this design, its not that far different from how current one is. But its a lot more interesting and awesome than the current. A big problem was how it looked like a "fisherman's hut" rather than the Witch. So I added a proper way up the hut using vines, added some on the walls of the perimeter, used some skeleton heads and the outside looks even better and amazing.
The inside however is a lot better than the current. You won't feel crunched up inside but rather a little more freedom, just because I took off the one block above the current design and replaced it with a top slab. That half of block space really created a lot more room. I also added a cool light source rather than a torch and a chest.

THE OUTSIDE
THE INSIDE
(NOTE) These were posted and created 2 WEEKS AGO
Now....this is what I'm talking about. I'm not saying it should be the FINISHED DESIGN.
But I'm just comparing how I thought it would look like and the implemented product for 12w40a.
While creating my view on a "Witch's Hut" I would picture it a little "out-of-this-world"
So I used Netherracks and Soul Sands as building materials for half of the building.
I wanted it to blend in the "swampy enviroment" so I balanced out the nether materials with wood materials
to create a more appropriate hut.
Since it the "PRETTY SCARY UPDATE" and its mostly attached to the Halloween feeling, using Jack-o-Lanterns seems pretty appropriate.
Also the new mob heads makes a creepy feeling, and instead of a door, I used vines to cover up the entrance.
THE INSIDE, should be the player's TREASURE ROOM when they find a Witch's hut, A filled couldron, a brewing station, and an item filled chest is a pretty awesome thing that should be inside the witch's hut.
If you guys agree that the current Witch's Hut is a bit boring, please tweet the picture to DInnerbone and Jeb so we could help them out a bit before the official release of 1.4 Thanks for reading and
please leave a FEEDBACK on your opinion towards the Witch's Hut. THANKS
I'm fine with it as long as there's no nether-related items, or brewing stands. This is a snapshot, so this most likely isn't final. At the very least, it needs a chest, and an increase the the roof's height.

I mean, the Witch uses potions to attack its target. And a brewing stand seems appropriate right?

Which would give the player a brewing stand possibly before the nether. For some players thats all the need the nether for. Incredibly overpowered. No offense just putting it out there.
I agree. The current one is crap, and I don't even think Witches spawn in them yet.
Off topic: You should update your post. I'm curious to see what you've created this week.
I'll probably update the thread tomorrow afternoon, I'm still looking at this week's snapshot if I can come up with anything with it. But I do have some ideas ready to be uploaded.
I was expecting that they would just make them those [profanity="[profanity="shit"]"] shacks you see in villages. You know, that ones with the dirt floors.
Instead, they gave us nice swamp huts.

Shacks? That would suck even more than the current huts!

Too rare, small amount of reasons to go into the nether as it is, no. Just, no. Maybe potions and potion ingredients in a chest, but nothing more concerning loot.
The vanilla's cauldron should stay though. Just needs a higher roof, maybe spruce planks, more space, a cauldron on the ground, that kind of stuff.
Blocks that shouldn't be found in or around the Witch's hut:
Anything from the Nether
Endstone
Brewing stands
Mob heads
Beds
I think that the aesthetic of the current hut is fine, the wooden house on stilts lends itself perfectly to the swamp biome. It just needs a few adjustments. More head room obviously, all the villagers houses have at least 3 blocks of room, and the witches' hats clip through the ceiling at the moment. A door would be good too, if the Witch is given the ability to open doors like other testificates. And stairs up would also be helpful, otherwise the witches can't actually get into the huts, or get down from them, 'witch' is a bit silly (lol).
It would also be good if they could identify the huts as their homes, like testificates do, so they don't just wander off into the wilderness and actually stay near their hut, going in and out of it occasionally, but not necessarily going in at night or during the day.
The basic look of the place boils down to opinion. Personally I like the look of the implemented hut, though I'd say it could do with a slightly higher ceiling and perhaps a cobweb or pumpkin on the inside. Small paintings or perhaps even picture frames wouldn't hurt, and a mob head or two would certainly fit.
I see netherbrick floorings as overdoing it, and a forge isn't exactly "witch" material.
Maybe we need some gingerbread blocks.

You're just jealous 'cause the voices only talk to me
It's a development version, so presumably it's still under development. Wait until 1.4 drops before seriously complaining.

This is why /r/minecraft is much more civilized, because we have downvotes there. Crazy concept, right? (Come on admins, we need a way to -1 rep, or something.)
The floating chauldron is obviously a bug, and yes the roof could be one block higher. A chest with some loot (maybe some random potion and ingredient) would be cool. Also, some vine could do wonder. However I'm completely against the netherrack/sand/brick thing you're proposing. The present hut is minimalist, but this proposition is messy, and I personnaly prefer the hut roof to this wood and netherrack pyramid thing. It should also be noted that the hut has been designed so it could spawn in the middle of the water (it's a swamp after all), your design didn't.

I am ninja'd far too often.
Also how would you make it if they spawned on water (which seems to be the intention)?

Yes, but we don't want less reasons to go to the Nether.

Thanks for the feedback And I don't know yet, I havent really put that much mind into it. I'll work on something tonight .
Instead, they gave us nice swamp huts.
Praise be to Spode.
It's THEIR game.
Like it or gtfo.
And I'm a fan of Toonami

I wish there was a "dislike" button, because even though I have essentially the same view as you, the way you put it makes me want to disagree.
