A visit to a freshly generated Nether in this snapshot was interesting.
I took a while to get through the portal, but that is nothing unexpected when entering the Nether for the first time. I didn't get a chance to go to the Nether in 39a, but the Nether does not seem to be as laggy as what people reported. There was a bit or lag when chunks were generating, but that was only in spurts.
The interesting part was when the chunks stopped generating altogether and I was able to fly outside the Nether. <There should be a picture here, but Imgur is down or something. So I'll describe it instead. Basically it's an image of the Nether as if chunks of the Nether were deleted in MCEdit. The picture was taken from the empty space looking at a a cavern carved out of Netherrack. It looks a bit like a cross section of the Nether.>
This wasn't me merely flying out before the chunks could generate properly. I was out there a good couple of minutes and it never generated nor showed any signs that it would. I would also occasionally warp backwards when flying around, obviously hitting a wall that should be there. Falling would constantly warp me upwards.
Reloading seemed to fix the issue, for a bit, until I encountered the edge again.

Like that?
The Nether was a lot less laggy for me, or at least what's left of it...
Okay, I copied a save to test the nether, and it looks like the Nether is not generating new terrain.
And just in case, I decided to take a flying leap off the edge. I expected to die in the void. Instead, I'm stuck unable to do anything!
I'm going copy it again and test terrain generation in the Overworld. It's a relatively new game, so the edge of the world shouldn't be that far out...
edit: At least the Nether was playable...
And I get a "Internal Server Error" at the edge of the already generated terrain.
And I get this when trying to load that save:
Minecraft has crashed!

Is this really the first time for you? This has happened to me for a LOOONG time, in the Overworld, too.
How are you people not freaking the **** out over Jack-O-Lanterns lighting being nerfed? It serves no purpose whatsoever. Do you people who think this is okay just never use Jack-O-Lanterns? This is worse than Dinnerbone's attempt to nerf XP farms. I don't carry XP farms where ever I go. I like all the other changes (including Furnaces only producing light in one direction) but this is going to cause major problems in my worlds. We don't have enough light blocks for this to be okay. Even if all my worlds were wiped out today and I had to start over this would be a huge problem. I prefer the look of pumpkins in many cases. Overusing glowstone makes it less special. Redstone lamps can't be used underwater without significant preplanning.
The Jack-O-Lantern nerf either a.) needs to be removed completely, b.) should have a configuration option to reverse it or c.) a new light block needs to be added that is renewable, doesn't require a power source to work, is placeable underwater, produces strong light all all six sides, and drops itself when placed.

This right here makes this whole thing a useless waste of a post. You have an alternative light source and you refuse to use it because it "makes it less special", well it isn't SUPPOSED to be special.

*shrugs*
I never really used Jack-O-Lanterns as a light source myself. I thought they were rather ugly, compared to glowstone or glowstone lanterns. Not to mention they were a pain to place correctly. Even torches were preferable to using J-o-L, at least IMO. And I always thought it silly that light would come out of all sides of the pumpkin, rather than just the openings in front.

It's a building game. Preferring one material over another for aesthetic reasons is obviously a valid argument for not wanting a functional block nerfed. That you would even suggest that it's not is pathetic and embarrassing.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Under no circumstances do I want villagers building ugly little houses in my world. That's my job. Link Removed

I've had the bug where the blocks are invisible and you can see caves and stuff underground, but this is different. It's just the Nether stops generating terrain completely, and you can't see through any blocks. Like in the picture above.
That's not the point, it's specifically in the rules to not post jars, or at least it was last time I checked.

~40 minutes later~
It's still "building terrain."
There is something fundamentally wrong here...

EDIT: It's a problem with the snapshot itself, I was able to use the world by reverting to 38a.
