I created a new world and started to gather resources. I heard a cow get heard so I went towards some cows. They were walking out of the trees and taking fall damage! I went into creative mode and I found that all mobs will be fearless and jump down heights that could injure them. This is really bad because I've noticed that villagers like to suicide by jumping off of the roofs of houses.
So the improved path finding mechanic doesn't only apply to hostiles, but also to normal mobs?
I hope they will fix this, so only hostile mobs will jump and get hurt and only when they've found their target.
Yeah. A bunch of my villagers in another world killed them selves by jumping off of the roofs of their houses.
Mobs should only jump to take fall damage if they have a significant amount of hp(say above 50%). It would be dumb to have a zombie jump at you and then die before you can even get to him.(her?)
Also, perhaps mobs should only jump on 'Hard' difficulty. It might be too annoying for those who just want to casually hunt mobs and don't want too much danger.
Dear heavens, no creature is more suicidal than a dog. It's almost faster just to kill them on sight, rather than let them be killed horrifically through their own stupidity. I've seen them drown themselves, jump into lava, fall off of huge heights. It's gruesome.
I assumed that villagers had a vague sense of intellect, and were at least partially human. Hurling yourself off the top of your house is something that most humans wouldn't do. (Although I guess if I looked like squidward, I might just hurl myself off...)

In my old world, I had six dogs. They all died. Here is how:
1. Jumped off of a bridge I was building over a ravine
2. Warped to me for no reason while I was standing by a long drop
3. Jumped into a flowing lava pool
4. Swam under ice and drowned
5. Attempting to kill 3 endermen I was handling perfectly fine on my own
I would never be caught taming a wolf. I can handle my own fights, plus, dogs are stupid

My avatar is a two tailed fox named Miles "Tails" Prower. He may only be 8 years old,but he is a highly skilled engineer. He stands 2'7" tall, and can use his tails to fly short distances, and run at near supersonic speeds.

For what it is worth, the tamable dogs of Skyrim are just as bad.
I wouldn't remove the jumping entirely, but rather make it more intelligent. For animals, they should never jump more than 2-3 blocks. Ever. For villagers, they should avoid jumping more than 2 blocks, unless it is night and they need to get home, at which point they would jump up to 4 blocks. If near a zombie, villagers should be willing to jump any height that won't kill them.

Simon: I'm bored. I'll just light some TNT right here.
Villager: NOOOOOOOO
TNT: BOOM!
Suddenly, there's a white beam of light. Everything goes dark. Then a Wither spawns. Scratch that, 12 Withers. They start attacking EVERYTHING. Then, a white light appears in the sky. A figure begins descending. Soon, it seems evident who it is.
Notch: I sense disruption in this world. I will fix it.
Notch starts emitting purple particles. As he does this, the Withers and zombies start disappearing, the village starts getting repaired, and Simon gets hundreds of stacks of TNT.
Simon: Yaaaaaaaaay!
Villager: Oh holy Notch, what can I ever do to repay you?
Notch: Just one thing. Play Minecraft.
THE END.

I don't understand why this is such a big deal. We're talking about cows and villagers. One's an annoying passive mod and the other can breed infinitely as long as there's enough doors.
It wasn't THAT long ago when we didn't have special pathfinding algorithms. I don't see why it's that much of an issue that passive mobs are back to jumping off cliffs again.
I hope this is just a bug.
I am ninja'd far too often.
Yeah. A bunch of my villagers in another world killed them selves by jumping off of the roofs of their houses.
So should sheep, pigs, esp. villagers, etc.
I am ninja'd far too often.
All hostile should see killing as number one priority, all passive survival is number one.
With a slight exception with Enderman, any damage inducing movement should be replaced with a teleport.

Poor little cows :/
Hope they fix it/change it back soon :/
I think they were always suicidal. They sure do love my hot tub made of lava.

I thought that was the point, dropping other players' dogs into lava while cackling about how stupid they are.

Wow, my imagination is weird.
Who's Simon?

He can't even jump over a two block gap reliably.
At first I thought you were calling me a moron, but then I read the rest of the reply. I see now.
