So I just noticed this:
* As of 14w25a[upcoming], fire can no longer be obtained in the inventory and the recipe for chain armor has been removed.
On the wiki, and was wondering if any of you happen to know why? Fire wasn't being abused, and the item was actually helpful to map makers in a limited scope since it could be used with item frames to make a fire place more compact/stylized/in a wood house without turning Firetick off. So yeah, discussion thread.
Searched for: fire removed, before creating this topic, but my have still missed a similar post, if so, apologies.
I believe the reason they removed it was because you map makers could use flint and steel and whatnot to create a fire tile block and also use worldedit to create fire tile blocks. As for the chain armor recipe, I think they wanted you to have to explore the world in survival and find a village to get chain armor instead of spawning in fire tile blocks which would encourage exploring (which is intended to be a big part of the game). As for being in creative/cheats to craft chain armor, there really was no point to it. You could just take the chain armor out of your inventory.

Thank you for replying, however, I feel you missed the main use I presented: The item in frames for various effects.
I highly doubt this was removed because it was unnecessary... They had to go out of their way to prevent fire being obtainable in the inventory, so I can only assume they are either changing how fire works or adding categorizations of "technical" blocks for some reason. You should still be able to MCEdit the item into whatever you need, I would think. Haven't tried it though.

Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. ~Psalms 62:6
It's a shame they removed fire, lava and water as items, they were really useful for minigames or adventure maps for many reasons and they looked cool.
Don't forget the actual nether portal item. That item looked amazing on item frames and on mob heads. It was most likely done due to the rewrites. Well, I suppose it was the price to pay for the new mapmaking additions.
Oh NO! I needed fire items and craftable chainmail for a CTM idea!

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna never release another custom Minecraft map.Until we meet again...
