"Can you point to the object that represents a resilient parasite of an idea caught in the tangled nature of the subconscious human mind? Thaaaat's right!"
Though I'm glad there finally was an announcment about this, I wish we were notified a lot sooner than this was posted, its annoying to have it happening for hours before an announcement is placed.
Honestly I'm surprised the search feature hasn't blown up before this what with how big these forums have gotten. PHPBB didn't do any real indexing of it's content last I looked into it so it's hardly surprising that it suffers from searches.
Looks like they updated it since I last looked at it which was admittedly quite a while ago. I see some basic indexing going on but it's still plain text based from the look of it.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
It's not up to random members to lock threads. If the moderators think it is necessary then they will do so. If you don't like what's being discussed here you can simply stop checking this thread. There still are things that can be discussed.

Yes, it's very common for people to use the "View your posts" function to look at recent activity in the threads they've been discussing things in. However, I am confused about the statement, "due to abuse by members the search function has been disabled." How can one "abuse" such a basic function to a forum (as large as this one)?
Anyways, to help alleviate a little of the pain, one thing we can all do is first take a breath and let it out - realize this won't be something ruining your life or kicking you out in the cold or stealing your Mt. Dew (heaven forbid!).
Secondly, you can start creating shortcuts/bookmarks to the threads you've recently posted in. Someone else suggested using the universal search tool, Google, to help search for your posts in here. That's somewhat helpful if the posts are over 48 hours old (I forget just how often Google indexing bots go through here, but most trafficked places are 24-48 hours between scans, not barring specific index submissions).
Using these methods are decent work-arounds for the search impaired. Hope this helps. ;2)

because phpbb was designed by toddlers who slobbered on the keyboard and produced this. We're moving away very soon, but for now we just have to deal with it :sad.gif:
It can be abused because it wasn't well thought-out enough :3
