I figured it'd go away eventually so, while disappointed, I'm not surprised. And as much as I'd like to have it back, I'd settle for an item--like the compass--that points to the nearest monster. Some of the value of F3 would be restored, but still remain within the bounds of consistency with Minecraft mechanics.
Since I've been leaving most passive mobs alone, since once killed, they are gone forever, I'd be using F3 to find THEM more than zombies. I'll be walking around and see a small water pool, with 3 pigs, 2 sheep and a butt load of chickens. Break some blocks so they can get out and wander about. But F3 would be handy to find them for sure!

To be honest, the only way i used it, was to find cave systems to light up. Without this feature it will be nearly impossible to completely light up caves which is kinda sad. In my opinion it should be reimplimented. Let the player decide what they want to use it for.
It was useful for catching all the stray mob spawns in unlit caves so mob traps work better.
Problem is that it was so easy to turn on any time you started hearing stuff in caves. Kinda trivialized caving. Caving has been more fun without it. Yea early on there's a high chance you'll get ambushed outside your doors but as you progress in the game that can be prevented.
I liked too use in smp with my friends when we went mining really deep, we didn't use it all the time, but now and again it was really useful, especially areas with lava where you could suffer a lovely suprise, being knocked into it by something going GARRRRRR.....
I only hope that the feature of seeing coordinates won't go off.
It's very useful for building pairs of portals for long distance travelling.
Or at least we could use some stylized feature instead of it, as ugly as those
in-game maps :smile.gif:
Yes, I'd like that feature back.
It was worth its weight in gold when trying to find new caves through massive ground. Many of the caves that I have explored would have gone unnoticed if it had not been for the ability to "see" through solid rock.
As to call this a "cheat" - get a grip. A cheat is something that is used as a atool in the sole purpose to gain an advantage over somebody else. The F# button was free to use for anybody who had a working copy of MC.
So yes, I'd love this feature to come back in some sort of form. It was suggested that one should be able to craft a "mob compass". I'm all for that, if possible. Make the necessary items/ingredients hard to come by, but make it possible.
