I see alot of people complaining about hunger.. Here's my suggestion for a fix.
Idk if this was already suggested.
But Notch should make it so when your hunger bar is full, and you eat something, you gain health like before with the addition of Hunger regen. This would solve problem of "Hit-n-Run" And it will be almost like minecraft before 1.8 :biggrin.gif:
Well, if you maintain the eating animation, then it's kind of pointless because it would barely be faster than waiting for your health to regenerate on its own, and would keep you from escaping an enemy that is attacking you.
If you remove the eating animation for this then it would just be way overpowered now that you can keep large stacks of food... it would be trivial to outheal any damage you take.

Healing takes WAY longer than just eating something. :S
What I have suggested is that when you eat food you gain like a half heart of health back from consuming the food so you have throw a bunch of food down the hatch if you are in dire need of the food but you can also just get your hunger up and let it regenerate. It bring the gaming aspect of eating food to regain health back but also keeps the Hunger system, which I actually enjoy and think is a lot better than the old system.

That will be incredibly slow and inefficient. I think it should be at the rates it was at before.

If that's the case then there should be some harm coming from using food to heal for so much. I think a new system should be added on; a "bloated" bar should be added below the hunger bar. It keeps track of how many times you 'over-eat', and once it gets filled, you have 'accidents' of some sort that could do things like cause temporary blindness in the form of brown or green stains on the screen.

That's the point, is the fast health worth the food it would take to fill it or could you wait for the Hunger system to fill it up? Making games around "Having your cake a eating it too" is not a good design. There needs to be a cost for quick health. If demand is high, so should be the cost.

How about this, if you eat too much of the same thing. (Let's say bread.) You would gain less hearts (after hunger bar is full) after each time you eat that food. Why? Because in real life, if you were to eat same piece of bread every single day, you would get sick of it. So, if you eat different foods, you will be able to heal at normal (maybe less than 1.7) rates. Eating animation will still be present.

That could be good for making people expand their farming to more then just one thing.
i don't know if this was brought up cause i'm too lazy to read but anyways how about just adding the option to add hunger in the game/server so you can decide if you want it in or not

That would be useful too. But I'm suggesting a fix for the hunger system, not whether or not have it gone.
The whole premise of the healing system was flawed, I don't care what you tell me, in no practical sense can a good ol' porkchop can heal vital wounds.
Now this system is still slightly in place, stating, that if you are full you heal . . . which can be true to an extent . . . but when reality sets in, legitimate damage must be healed with the appropriate tool.
So, bandages or potions should be instated as your insta-heal tool, I particularly like potions as they raise the ideas of counter effects of their use.
But hey, just tossing ideas around.
I very much prefer the hunger system.

great idea but there will still be people who are like
"the hunger system sucks i keep starving"
even though it is too easy to get food in my opinion
i think they should increase the rate your hunger empties
fullness should deplete faster when mining and alike, when sprinting when when your walking or less also sleeping should cause the hunger meter deplete a bit but sleeping should restor 3 or 4 hearts also

If people keep complaining about starving, then they're too young to play any sort of games.
I have an Idea too...
Notch should let the hunger & healsystem like it is...
There are so many people can handle with hunger. Y change it because of some wimps are to lazy making a wheatfarm?
I, personally, want it changed because it forces players to use "Hit-n-Run" technique. Lets say I found an open dungeon (not on surface, in cave). I get hit a couple times and have to retreat back. And instead of healing quickly, I have to wait like 15 seconds for my health to restore. I don't have control over my Health. If I could eat and restore some HP, then I would have more control of my Health, and I would be able to fight more often, than having to sit in a corner and wait until my Health regenerates back.
Or you should try not to get hitted... I use all what I have to fight... even put blocks to slow down spiders for example... or make walls one block over the bottom, to stop shooting from skellets, so you can hit their legs... make some 3 block high towers to kill creeper from above... there are so many possibilitys...
Let me quickly correct your grammar, a little.
"Or you should try not to get hurt..."
Those blocks ain't gonna save ya at a skeleton dungeon. Besides, you will get hurt in the game. Here's another scenario, let's say you fell down into an unknown area. Mobs all around ya, skeletons, zombies, some spiders maybe. You fight your way into a dead end of the cave, hurt about half way (fall damage + fighting mobs). There are more mobs coming your way. What ya gonna do? Build a wall and sit there like a puss waiting for your health to regenerate slowly. Or you will eat some food, heal up relatively fast, and go out and fight a few of them mobs.
By the time you "heal up" with the regeneration system, there will be a lot of mobs on the other side of the wall waiting for ya.
In numbers (these are just numbers, not exact.)
Regen system = ~15-30 secs waiting.
Regen+Eat System = ~10-15 secs waiting.
Hunger needs no fix, people jsut need to either play on peaceful or deal with it. Is it really all that hard to make a farm?
Well no. Farming isn't a problem for me. What I'm concerned about is the fact that you have to wait in a corner until your health "regenerates". Which causes the game to become a waiting game. I'm not going to give any new scenarios, I will just quote my last one.

Yes, I think it should work that way. I can't imagine people being upset with it.

Oh god I hope the sarcasm is detectable.
