I actively watch and write on both of these forums (Black Ops and Minecraft), and it seems like the Minecraft community is starting to get like the COD community. What I mean is how more and more people aren't pleased with new releases/updates. A big part of the COD community is always complaining even though the developers are actively updating the game to the consumer's wants. Now I'm starting to see it in this community. I can understand that you may not be happy with a few things in the updates. Ex: Someone may dislike the new hunger bar. But it seems like we are complaining too much now. So can someone please explain to me what is so wrong with 1.8? I think this has been one of the best updates so far! Please give me your feedback as I want to see how other people feel about this too.
There are a TON of good things that came about in the update, and hardly any bad in my opinion. I just don't get what all the complaints are about.
Also another thing to put it: There are some things that will get updated such as spawning in trees and water. You won't get everything perfect right away!
While people are entitled to their own opinions, and always can complain, it seems like it's a little excessive more recently. It almost makes me want to stop going here when half the threads are complaints (rarely constructive), redundant threads, and already discovered bugs.
Especially when you get someone saying something like "I haven't played the update yet because it's so horrible" or any other statement that they have no experience in. :dry.gif:

Now, now, children, your uncle DethPotato is here to tell you to be nice to each other regardless of each others' opinions. He is also coming here to tell you to either make a new thread regarding this topic, or get back on the main topic of this thread. Or, you could slightly change the topic of this thread so that your current discussion fits.
Everyone has seen the very numerous threads bashing the various features of 1.9, Notch, Mojang, etc. Can we turn down the hating? Just a little bit? Sure, everyone may not be pleased with enchanting, or potions, but really, is it at all realistic to expect that Notch will undo his work from the past several weeks and take these features out? One, that would infuriate far more players than it might pacify, and two, something like that is completely unprecedented in a game as popular as Minecraft. Complete feature removal? Forget about it. Nobody is forcing you to use enchantments and potions.
.
Adding an XP bar does NOT, I repeat NOT turn Minecraft into an RPG. An RPG, to quote the dictionary, is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting and take those characters through a structured narrative or structured decision making.
.
Fantasy elements are often found in RPGs, but the reverse is NOT true. Fantasy != RPG. XP bar + minor fantasy elements does not and WILL NEVER equal an RPG in Minecraft, since Minecraft is completely devoid of a plot whatsoever.
.
Finally, at the end of the day, you have to give Notch and Mojang some credit for what they have accomplished. Minecraft has over 3 million users. If Mojang was making bad gameplay decisions, why is Minecraft one of the most popular video games of all time? Because Mojang knows what they are doing. The success of Minecraft is testament to it.
.
tl;dr: If you cannot come up with a completely valid reason for claiming that 1.9 ruins Minecraft, please keep your mouth shut.
Most people above 30 learn to deal with their wants in a more mature way than teenagers do.
Then there are some who don't! I know a 40 year old who acts worse than any 16 year old I've ever met. But I sort of consider him a 'teenager', and I'm 20!
Haha, even though 'teenager' means 13-19, I think of it in this case as more like a maturity age. I know 15 year olds who I consider more adult than some 40 year olds(like the person I mentioned before... :huh.gif:)
So yes, "teenagers" in this regard will be much more prone to complain I believe :laugh.gif:
You may be 12, 15, 18, 20, 35, 60, or older, but act a totally different maturity age. In general I see most people fall into their own age categories, but there are those exceptions...

I'm too new on these forums to be making any guesses! :laugh.gif: I'm basically just saying in general what you say is true(with age comes experiences that define us, etc), but boy do I know some exceptions to the rule! :huh.gif:
But I'm not really here to talk philosophy or get in depth discussion about maturity levels! I'm here for some minecraft! :biggrin.gif:
Ahh it's times like these where I sit and think how many of us forget about where computers, technology and games used to be and how we always bang on our keyboards when it doesn't work fast enough when this kind of speed would have been amazing 10 years ago.
It makes me laugh. Especially when I catch myself doing it. :smile.gif:

I don't see why having so many complaint threads is so bad.... Apparently people find it so terrible that I have seen probably more "Stop complaining!" or "Why 1.8 is great", or "Just shut up and be happy with what you have" and "Why Notch is God" (maybe not that last one) threads than actual complaining threads.
I mean, it is just a little line of text on your screen (unless you click on the thread). If you see a complaining thread, simply rotate your eyes a degree downwards to view the next thread.

I can see what you mean, but seeing all the complaining posts puts a kind of depressing attitude on the forums. When you see someone complain about something that may have not affected you much before, then that one complaint becomes a bigger problem to you. I hope you get what I meant. I can understand some constructive criticism, but it's just gotten to be too much.

I do know what you mean, but surely if the complaint makes you realize it is a problem then it is a legitimate complaint that should thus be fixed?

I completely agree with you. It's just the little things that people complain about that get annoying. Such as spawning on trees. Sure it's weird and should be fixed, but it's nothing that's worth complaining about a lot.
Dear lord. Perhaps all videogame communities eventually degrade to this. Halo, COD, Minecraft; it's just that Minecraft did something to get here much quicker. Actually, it's been out for quite some time, so maybe it was inevitable.

Manly blood is both highly acidic AND highly basic, but I'm glad to see you're paying attention.
How about this; If you're going to waste your time to make a complaint/rant thread, make sure you don't waste our time when we read it. Add a suggestion or two as to how you would fix what you're complaining or ranting about. If you can't do that, don't even bother posting, just go scream into a pillow.
On these kind of games there's always two types of 'kids': The very mature ones that you wouldn't particularly know they are young due to their spelling, grammar, way they converse etc, and the ranty ones that **** all over the keyboard in disgust at everything that doesn't go their way, expecting it all to be handed on a silver plate.
Of course, exceptions to every rule and that, but the stigma these days is that if you push, you get what you want. People didn't like Black Ops because of XYZ, what do we see? MW3 multiplayer trailer had me fooled that it was MW2 until I realised that the map was different. The developers cave in to the ridiculous immature pressure put on by some members of the community, and I don't blame them. They're like a referee, they're never the winner and someone will always hate them.
People do have to remember, that although you're the community and yes you have a very valuable input, you won't quit because of minor changes, you've still paid! I played WoW for a few years, people always threaten to quit because of this, that and the other, they never do. Notch could sit down right now and say 'Okay, you immature bunch of pricks, I quit.' You'd still play for a fair bit before getting bored, I'd wager.
TL;DR People need to learn to adapt to what they're given, remember that nobody cares about their opinion, as they're a small fish in a very big ocean. If you want to complain, bring constructive, logical evidence to the table and proceed with your campaign in a mature, well-written manner. That is all.

If you can't strive for perfection, what can you strive for?

I think it would hold true for most any age group. :/

Shocking, right?
416 stone
296 stone slab (150 blocks)
149 stone stairs (228 blocks)
794 total stone
1082 blackstone
174 blackstone slab (87 blocks)
52 blackstone stairs (78 blocks)
1247 total blackstone
(not counting drawbridges and portcullises)
Things that suck in their opinion, not specifically everyone's opinion, just theirs.
